I won't ever understand the need for him to appoint his successor. We needed to get better, would he be helping us achieve that?
You have absolutely ZERO idea of the recruiting process that we went through to get Hornsby's replacement, so why stick the boot into the club and say we need to get better when you don't know what we actually did?
You don't know what the criteria was for selecting candidates, you don't know what applicants we received from the announcement that Hornsby was leaving and you have no idea who we head hunted. You didn't sit in on interviews, you don't know the brief that our EPM will have in regards to the fitness required for the game style that Dimma is implementing.

In short, you don't know anything about the process, so to say it needs to get better is laughable as you are commenting on something you have no expertise in or even knowledge about. The definition of an armchair critic.

I said we needed to get better, as in Hornsby. Learn to read and comprehend before posting. We. Needed. To. Get. Better. Than. Hornsby. Not get better in the process.

I have never seen someone who is leaving a football club involved in the "process" of getting his own replacement. Maybe when Dimma leaves we can get him to help us also? We can become pioneers in this regard. Why not hey.

Gee, some club sympathisers on here get edgy don't they? Even when someone is not being negative towards the club, just wants an understanding of decisions made. Some people on here just assume every decision the club makes is perfect. It's a wonder how we keep failing to make the finals......

So, in short, jog on.

You have no idea about Burge's skillset compared to Hornsby so yet again you are talking out of your arse

Incorrect. I do have some idea. As you do not know me, I would suggest you don't draw conclusions on me. You can't make that statement without knowing me. So again, jog on.

Also, for you, the slow of thought, I am also not knocking the decision, so stop talking out of your arse, I am questioning the need for Hornsby to be part of the process to find his replacement. That is all.

Choco Williams is a PE teacher who has coached and afl flag!

yep. me too & I"ve trained some elite athletes and the pe stuff gives you some grounding and theoretical frameworks but ya need to do a whole lot more to get the job done at the elite afl level. just my 2 cents worth for what its worth. M. Williams grew up around what is considered footy royalty ( if there is such a thing) played for port, then captained the pies etc assisted under sheedy at the Dons etc etc lots of ground work laid on top of uni qualifications.

Feel free to inform us of your knowledge of each person's skillsets then.

I know when we are recruiting we have first round interviews with management, then in the 2nd round interview we have someone in an equivalent position for the vacant role to join the interview to qualify their knowledge and skillset rather than just believing what is in their resume/CV. I see no reason why Hornsby couldn't have played that role to ask the questions that a manager wouldn't know to ask.

Who is we exactly? It's one of the things the supporters want to know and the papers are also interested in when every team does it because it's a simple measure.

Who says that means our fitness staff have it at the top of their list as far as assessments?
I didn't say we placed it at the top of the list , I simply said I hope there is less emphasis on ' The Tan ' and more emphasis on more advanced fitness tests , this includes those tests which can be conducted easily during the season without creating any body fatigue .
Every year we see large amounts of publicity surrounding the Richmond's ' Tan ' results , I'd suggest greater than any other club.

How do you know this is correct. Can you show us the links so we can judge for ourselves.
Because he is the owner of the eyes that sees what he sees , and unless he has had a camera attached to his head since birth which has been downloaded somewhere , I'd say it is very difficult to provide a link or question what someone has seen .
' I have never seen '
It's appeared obvious to me that they think Hornsby is the first to be involved in the selection process to find their replacement and doesn't agree with it . It's their opinion and they are entitled to it .

We do the Tan because it's nearby. Other clubs do time trials around Royal Park (Carlton), Victoria University (Western Bulldogs) and others.

In my job, it's incumbent upon me to groom a successor if I move on or retire. It's succession planning and risk management. Matt has a new and exciting role. In my eyes he's a great man. Far more than a PE teacher and the role requires that. I spent two weeks under his leadership in Arizona. A time I'll never forget not just for being there but for his leadership, professionalism and opening my eyes to the amazing amount of preparation and man management that goes into the squad across all levels of fitness and condition in preseason and in season. I just don't think, based on some of the comments here, that people truly appreciate and understand the role of an Elite Performance Manager.

I'll say no more. Matt's contribution in my eyes has been great, and look forward to Peter Burge's. Hopefully I'll see it up close in a couple of months.

I think that's just the media appeal of our club in general rather than it being specifically the Tan.

Carlton do it each year and are reported just as much. Collingwood not so much because they get theirs on their USA trip.

Totally agree kiwiTiger. Especially the part where people dont really understand what goes into elite training management. That is probably just one of the reasons Matt was involved but an important one. Because at a technical level he was probably the one to screen his replacements qualifications and experience and also having invested so much into the club (time and care) he would not wish to see his work and effort in the hands of someone he was not confident in continueing that. But you would probably know more than me. I know from the people Ive worked you that you develop a strong caring relationship with them and you only want the best for them. I can only imagine that he is not only a professional but really loves the club and would know each of the players intimately becos that is the nature of this type of work.

To be blunt with all that it comes down that its none of our business what the specific process was and it would be amateur of the RFC to release the scorecard or results of the process in the public arena for our competitors to see.

And Arizona was not high altitude training, simply a training camp for the club.

The way i see it...

Its not and never has been about the 'actual' specifics of the process the Club utilized to engage Burge...thats irrelevant and totally a side issue entirely...

For me its more about the lack of the Clubs though process revealing a little of the detail as to the 'why' Burge has been recruited...

How he currently fits in there...and what he brings to the club in terms of player list management...

A little more public detail as to those details i feel would be good public relations especially towards the paying members/patrons and sponsors...

(who knows it may prompt further interest and contact from other like minded professionals and that can only be a good thing)

And as for Arizona...Arizona was...what it was...

What is interesting though...is that the saints are also looking at high altitude training as well and looking to focus their list management with that in mind...

We have different expectations of what the club owes us then in terms of detail of their process. They gave us a no-nonsense media release. To me that's all we are entitled to but I have no doubt we'll learn more about Burge through Roar Vision as time goes on.

Just a difference of opinion and that's fair enough.

Don't care how we got the guy but if the club believe that he is the best guy for the job then I'm happy we've got him and I'm even happier that we have got him a good 2 months before preseason training kicks into gear. That means Burge should have enough time to sit down and work out a detailed program, alongside Hardwick and co, that will hopefully allow our boys to hit the season in the best possible shape.

i think in this case since he would have stayed on but for a change in his business/career direction, in this case its different than traditional personel leaving a club.

richmonds tan, the blues around pp time trial. all clubs do them its just the media blowing smoke about them.

the pies do theirs around the running track.

It has been reported Hornsby would be involved in the process to hire his replacement, who we now know is Burge.

i think in this case since he would have stayed on but for a change in his business/career direction, in this case its different than traditional personel leaving a club.

Yeah I think it is a different case to normal to, I just found it weird, I mean good on the guy, he got a job that will benefit him more, but to then have him part of the process as been reported I found strange. In the corporate world, you see someone outline their job and sit with the people hired to find the replacement to detail specifics. In Football clubs though, most is known within the football department and the Head of Football should have that specific already. To me having the guy leaving clouds the process.

In my opinion, hiring Burge, a guy Hardwick wanted in 2009, it would seem that maybe he wasn't used anyway? May have been right timing and contact with the situation at St.Kilda.

Anyway, enough of this, it's tiresome really, let's hope Peter Burge is the right guy to take us forward onto better things and get us in better shape than we have been in the past. It will go along way to our continued improvement. I look on with interest.
