Autopsy Saints in biggest last quarter comeback in history.

Not for nothing, but Hunter Clark's highest TOG in over a year.
It was such a mad house, somebody forgot to take him off 🤣🤣🤣

Kidding. He had an excellent last quarter.

How cool is it being the centre of the AFL world's attention for a few days..the team showed what they can do.(They showed the same capacity V Richmond this year) And having all the oppo supporters come on and commend the team, and wish NAS stays.. so much love for the Saints...it's such a beautiful thing ❤️
This is the start of the clubs run to its second flag....bookmark it, in Nasiah we trust 🥰

Don’t love Hodge on the media, however he did get it right tonight……

Why do we only play like that when we’re under the pump?
We’re clearly capable of playing fast, exciting attacking footy.

Lucky the ump didn’t see or hear the deflection, because he definitely got a hand to that ball. Hence the Dees reaction.

Could see it from where we were, you can see it deflect on the close-up replay, and it’s why it hit Higgo on the left arm in the end, rather than going into his breadbasket.

Made up for the 3 frees they missed up there in the 2nd quarter though, and one they missed to Higgo a few minutes earlier on the goal-line, when one of the Dees blokes had him in a bear-hug, when he didn’t have the ball.

I think the answer to that is two pronged. All out offense only really works if 1) we can win centre clearance and 2) when our back 6 has the capacity to repel attacking waves without ‘defensively minded’ stoppage setups.

I can understand why the game plan is currently negatively geared from the first bounce.

But we’d be a totally different side with a Tom Barrass / Josh Battle pairing to support Cal Willie down back and a Rowell / Anderson pairing in the middle.

The good news is that we have some good green shoots. Max Hall can clearly find the ball in the middle, as can NWM and both are deceptively quick. Windhager is starting to look more and more like LDU.

Steele being shunted to the forward line and Macrae sent to the bench for the last stoppage speaks volumes for where we’re headed.

Caminiti is looking like he could be a premiere athletic lock down defender with a little more development. Has he got it in him to get to the next level of lockdown ability? Not sure, but I don’t think he’s the type that will die wondering.

Tauru will be a very special player in 3 years time. I love his defensive intent, he is going to be feared.

Wherever it comes from Wilkie needs an A grade defender to help him out. Someone who can take ownership for managing down back and allow Wilkie to focus on being the interceptor.

Hastie should be starting to feel like he can really contribute at the level. We need to get games into him.

And Boxhall could be crazy good. Started as the sub against Melbourne and had more impact in the stoppage than Captain Steele by the end of the day.

Onus is on Max King, Phillipou and Travaglia, to stake a claim in this team now.

Sorry dont have it in me to do a photo montage, but be my guest if anyone wants to have a go with these

It was a sling tackle anyway.

Funny to think that up until quite recently this team was bring built around Max King.

Bit awkward when he comes back and everyone is like "Na-ah, Champ; Nas is Big Dog here now, we all dance to his tune"

And the soft 50m against Tauru

Yep. Good take.

And very simplistically, I don’t think, at this stage we’re capable of playing like this for an entire game. Not a bad thing that we can play in defensive mode when needed also. And we’ve shown we can switch it on when necessary. .

Hopefully when the team is more mature we’ll be able to get a better balance between the two modes of play.

In the last quarter, Steele went forward and Macrae on a wing hbf, allowed Nas and Hall to be in ball and it all started from there.
What a find Max Hall has become, he is a midfielder now, changing of the guard before our eyes.
Would love to see Owens change with Steele on ball a bit more.
Thought that throughout the game it was our mistakes that was making Melb look good, didn't think that what would happen would happen!!
More likely it would end as a. .. what might have been if only we played better 3 goal loss.
I reckon Goodwin is gone at end of season...that tonight was a coach killer.

I hope Nas stays, logic says he should...add a fit Pou, King and for that matter Doogs and we start to look a much more complete side in 2026.

Did beating Carlton in the last game last year help develop the will to win whatever the circumstances that we did today...I think so..winning games is everything. Just ask. Melbourne tonight.

Go Sainters.....you miserable pack of bastards.
Honestly can’t think of a reason why Owens/Steele forward mid rotation shouldn’t be pursued til end of the year

Ross is just unbelievably reluctant to mix it up until he is absolutely forced to. We should have been seeing a NAS/Hall combo with Owens rotating also for months now.

This is a man who played Robert Eddy in a GF with a busted arm, rather then a fit Steven or Armitage. Seriously, one of the dumbest selections in AFL history.

Once Ross makes his mind up you won't change it. He has put a line through Owens as a mid and we will never see it now.

To be fair (and this is contrary to the ruthless accusation) that would have meant leaving Eddy out of a Grand Final in consecutive years. Pretty tough if you ask me, even if warranted.

Eddy kicks that goal (from the boundary line when he hit the post) early in the last quarter of the draw and I think we all consider him differently.

Chito isn’t explosive enough to be the kind of mid we need until Steele and McRae retired.

We don’t need a slow contested beast right now unless we stop playing Steele or Macrae.

Hopefully in a few years he will be in there along all our other emerging mids.

I'm on the record: I don't think Owens is a mid.

Did he lose it?

Explosiveness/turn of speed etc?
