List Changes So far:
181017-list-changes-graphic.jpg

181017-current-picks-graphic.jpg

After retirements & Delistings:
Out: Stevens, Gilbert, Freeman, Goddard, Wright, Minchington, Connellan, Weller
In: 7 senior list spots

After trades:
Out: Hickey
In: Hannebery, Kent

Leaving 6 senior spots

One would assume Marshall would be elevated to the senior list, and Joyce moved to Cat B rookie list opening up 2 rookie spots

This would leave draft picks: 4, 36, 46, 67, 79

+ Pick 3 and x in Rookie Draft.

Note: All our Picks after 36 have potential to move up the draft order on draft night pending academy and father-son bids.

Connellan was Cat B so he doesn't count as a pick for the senior or rookie pick. Joyce was the one on the main rookie list.

hey you know how the AFL put restrictions on clubs with trading their higher picks for a bunch of lower picks to accumulate points to make it easier to draft zoned players

does that apply to live trading, cause if it doesn't BOY OH BOY those two picks could turn into something higher very easily!!!!

Is Robo actually returning to play? I thought the inside word was doctors said noooooooo!
At the B&F he said he'd start pre-season day 1. Not much point doing that if you're not going to play

So at this stage we have room for 2 more Category B rookies, no more rookies unless we upgrade Marshall and /or Pierce, and we need 4 or 5 on the Senior List. Is this the situation?

Would have been given the chop already if we couldn't play him again.

List size stands at 44 for primary list and Category A rookies. So we've got

Primary list (38-40 players):
  1. Jake Carlisle
  2. Jack Steven
  3. Jade Gresham
  4. Shane Savage
  5. Sebastian Ross
  6. Luke Dunstan
  7. Blake Acres
  8. Jack Steele
  9. Hunter Clark
  10. Jack Lonie
  11. Jarryn Geary (c)
  12. Jack Billings
  13. Jack Newnes
  14. Dylan Roberton
  15. Billy Longer
  16. David Armitage
  17. Ben Long
  18. Nathan Brown
  19. Logan Austin
  20. Josh Battle
  21. Josh Bruce
  22. Tim Membrey
  23. Jimmy Webster
  24. Ed Phillips
  25. Brandon White
  26. Paddy McCartin
  27. Nick Coffield
  28. Jack Sinclair
  29. Daniel McKenzie
  30. Bailey Rice
  31. Oscar Clavarino
  32. Ben Paton
  33. Dean Kent
  34. Daniel Hannebery
  35. National Draft Pick 4
  36. National Draft Pick 36
  37. National Draft Pick 46
  38. National Draft Pick 67
Category A Rookie List (4-6, depending on primary list):
  1. Lewis Pierce
  2. Rowan Marshall
  3. Doulton Langlands
  4. Rookie Draft Pick 3
Category B Rookie List (3)
  1. Sam Alabakis
  2. Darragh Joyce
We can conceivably also take extra picks at the national draft (notice how the club still mentions the ownership of 79 on the Trade Wrap) and the rookie draft, a total of two extra players. Most likely either one at the national draft (pick 79) and one in the rookie draft (pick 21 or less if other clubs aren't selecting) or two picks in the rookie draft. We can also potentially take on a third Category B rookie.

And that's before we start to consider live pick trading...

Darragh is Cat A.
They could probably change him now that Ray is gone but don't think anything has been announced

Connellan was the Category A (apparently we chose to put the older player on Cat A). The Saints website lists Joyce as so:

Joyce joined St Kilda as a Category B International Rookie ahead of the 2017 AFL season.

http://www.saints.com.au/player-profile/darragh-joyce
Connellan's page also says that same thing though.

From memory when they signed I remember Ray being the Cat B and this article when he was delisted said he was Cat B. http://www.afl.com.au/news/2018-09-16/delisted-saint-convinced-he-can-still-make-it

Probably doesn't really matter, if Joyce wasn't before I'm sure they would move him to it now if possible.

Hard to find anything definitive. Closest I came was:

Under an AFL agreement with the Gaelic Athletic Association clubs are only allowed one Irish player on their international (category B) rookie list which dictates that the older player Connellan is likely to come to the Saints as a category A rookie.

Further to Goodie23 post at 14 above, we could promote both Marshall and Pierce to the Senior list, giving us 40 with the projected four picks, and give us two or three rookie picks, depending on Joyce's situation, whether we can make him a category B rookie or not.

Would have to imagine Marshall has done enough to be elevated to the senior list.

Would any of the DFA be of use for us? There doesn't look to be anyone amazing, but potentially some decent depth players out there.

I wouldn't mind us looking at Hartung and Partington, if we don't end up filling the slots in other ways.

Connellan was Cat B. Joyce was Cat A.Can only have one Irish recruit on Cat B at a time.

Think we'll use 67 to upgrade Lew to the senior list, and then three picks from national draft to make up the final senior list of 38. Would mean we need to have 6 Cat A rookies (Marshall, Langlands, Joyce, 3 Rookie picks)

How much do we save by having 2 extra rookies rather than 2 senior listed players. It would be salary cap we have to spend anyway wouldnt it?
Seems like we just get fewer players to choose from as those 2 extra rookies would be the ones left after virtually everyone else has filled their lists.

Surely we would be better off taking players at pick 100 and 110 rather than picks 40+ in the rookie draft.

Yeah, no idea how we'll do it but we need to make list minimum 38 spots, max 40.
