That was awful....

REALLY AWFUL...

We bassically played a St Kilda B team and got pumped...

Our skills are still shit and our tackerling is non-existant...

We had about 4 or 5 good players....out of 26 odd

Were off to CAIRNS next week....

Its the nab cup, but jezuzz Terry give us something!

What do you all think of Jake King?
I only watched a few minutes of the game tonight, was watching the cricket, but I liked him last year and it looked like he had another good 'un tonight.
Everyone just told me to STFU last year when I said he was a good player.
Thoughts?

Seriously... How does Raines get a game EVERY F***ing week? Is it just me that can see that he does not do a THING except put teammates under pressure?

Is JON ever going to do something that I am excited about?

Tigers are off to a good start *rolls eyes*

Saying that, big praise to Moore. I liked him from the first quarter tonight, he did not do much, but he actually looks like he is developing.

Top 4 - Newman, King, Lids, Moore.

Well it is silly for you to come onto a board, trying to be a smart arse, yet looking like a 13 year old moron by not spelling the insult properly isn't it?

If it is a word that is never used, why would you bother trying to put it into an insult?

A+ insult buddy, You pass grade 1!

Ps. I have heard better from a Carlton fan....

i didnt even realise polak played tonight, seriously.

what is it with ruckmen jumping too early and landing whilst the ball's still in the air at bounces?

simple errors, i think it was foley doing a dinky chip in the backline pocket, straight to a saint. cross goal kick by sylvster?

its endemic, when richo leads the target automatically changes from the chest to 2 ft about his head!

that doesn't make any sense... do you structure your sentences based on word usage??

of course... stick to the same 100 words/insults you use day in day out... "A+ buddy"!!

i came on here to make note that whatever structure/game plan terry had for you had failed and probably shouldn't have spent a whole pre-season working on it.. i guess you've still got a fair few weeks till round 1 to work on it now..

Difference was, the Saints were clinical in their forward 50.

Time after time Rchmonds decision making pumping the ball forward was :thumbsd:

Its no einstein footy, you cough it up, and its rebound footy...simple

Richmond did not kick the goals that mattered, Saints did.

Disappointing effort considering the side the Saints fielded.

Foley was well below his best, Tuck kicked poorly and only contributed about 15 minutes of decent ball winning. Jackson was well held, Johnson's main contribution in the centre was giving away free-kicks because he's always 2nd to the ball even against a 2nd rate opponent. With Simmonds looking like he needs another 6 weeks to get somewhere near fit, our ruck division was always going to struggle a bit, but we should have been able to get the upper hand in the centre fairly easily tonight.

When we were winning the ball in the centre, we used it very poorly 95% of the time.

Thought King had his usual solid game with good drive and some good disposal. We badly need him in the centre and I'm not sure why he didn't start there or at least get a rotation or two. Then again, I hate to think where our backline would have been without him.

Moore was quite good in patches, but he's no kid and is still too easily outbodied man on man. I still suspect we may play he and/or McGuane ahead of some of our small defenders this year. His effort was encouraging.

Bowden, Brown and Newman were all solid and had acceptable games.

Deledio played quite well and I thought we looked our best by far when he was leading up across half forward and delivering inside 50 with precision.

Casserley showed glimpses in his limited gametime, as did Morton and Pattison.

Tambling didn't show enough, but was a long way from the worst, likewise for Pettifer.

Richo was Richo.

McMahon was extremely disappointing...got shown up by Moore and King in both defensive drive and disposal - and hopefully he gets a red hot rocket for it.

Polak looked lost and surely couldn't really play much worse.

Tivendale and Hyde showed their usual lukewarm consistency. Nowhere near good enough from players who should be major contributors when they strike direct opponents like they did for much of tonight (Hyde was ok when he tagged Dal Santo).

I saw shades of Luke Weller and Ben Marsh in Sylvester and Cartledge...not much positive to say about that effort from either IMO.

JON still has a long way to go, but did show courage on occasion and did a couple of nice things. It's hard to believe that after numerous years on the list, he's the quickest sprinter at the club, but probably 2nd only to Johnson for a complete lack of speed off the mark.

Raines was in his '07 zone, where everything he touched turned to ashes and then got blown into a teammates' eyes.

I'm not going to read too much into the performance, because we typically play the Dome poorly, and Wallace coached like it was a practice match with a lot of player shuffling and experimentation. Having said that, it was an absolutely insipid performance and there was no evidence to suggest that we've improved in the many areas we've been way below acceptable on - particularly skill execution and smooth, fast ball movement.

If the Saints can get their players on the park, they are easily top 4 material.
Very much to like about them, always make most of their opportunities.
Saints always give 100%, play the game as it should be played, with intensity. Ran in numbers, supported each other, tackled well, ran players down:thumbsu:

Richmond is just too wasteful.
Intensity was hot/cold

I

Agree with Rayzor here, thought our forward structure was not great, but delivery was very average as well. If we can improve this over the course of the year I think we will see greater improvement and confidence from some of the boys, and who knows what can happen then. It was February 15 on Friday wasn't it?

It was interesting (and slightly misleading) that a lot of the media outlets suggested Richmond went into last night's game with their best 22. I would have thought that Thursfield, Polo, McGuane, Schulz, Edwards, Connors Coughlan and dare I say Cotchin etc would get a gig in in front of a few players.

Last night again showed the lack of tough inside players. Throw Coughlan and Polo back into that midfield and you will get some extra grunt and toughness.

Sadly, I think the game has gone past Kane Johnson. He just looked slow last night.

Chris Hyde will probably spend the year in the Coburg Reserves. I think the opposition teams have worked out his baulk, sideways maneouvre to the left...he just gets caught too often.

Tivendale is a depth player. Beautiful kick of the ball when he isn't under pressure.

Although I hate to say it, Raines just doesn't look as though he is going to make it. With Jake King cementing the tough nut, small defender role, Raines doesn't appear to have what it takes to make it as a midfielder.

Polak should play in defence. He looks lost up forward.

I like the idea of Newman playing as the key link man. He runs in straight lines, usually down the middle of the park and delivers the ball with precision.

I think Wallace should just clear out the first 30m of the forward line and leave Brown/Deledio in a one one one situation, both very hard to match up on.

Silvester - looked out of place in AFL world.

JON - for someone so quick, gets caught a lot.

I think the most disappointing feature of last night was the same old mistakes. Not hitting targets, slow decision making. Perfect example of this - Riewoldt had the ball at forward 50, Richo one out in the square. Riewoldt hesitates, then kicks a bomb with Richo surrounded by about 5 blokes. The instinct should just be to hit the ball long and hard quickly.

Could be in for a long year...especially if they lose to Carlton in the first round.
