Pyrrhic victory
noun

uk /ˌpɪr.ɪk ˈvɪk.tər.i/
us /ˌpɪr.ɪk ˈvɪk.tɚ.i/

a victory that is not worth winning because the winner has lost so much in winning it:
She won the court case, but it was a Pyrrhic victory because she had to pay so much in legal fees.

Fantastic, gritty, hard fought win! The injury crisis is getting worse by the minute, absolutely rotten luck this year...

Amazing recovery to just about sew up finals. I must say I really wasn't sold on Dal as a coach but this has been an amazing run given the injuries we've had. Very impressive.

Also brilliant to do it against Carlton!

Given how inconsistent the entire competition is (aside from North), I'm surprised there are some knocking the win streak/opponent quality.

So many matches the girls would've dropped previously, the fact that there even is a streak exemplifies the progress this team has made, not to mention the injuries to key players in almost every single match.

I wouldn't call finals being sewn up just yet, but this win was crucial. We're 2 games and percentage ahead of Sydney now, however they've got 2 winnable matches and we have North to come.

We really need to just try and keep the margin within six goals next week. Can't afford a huge percentage loss.

Crossing everything that we get some half-decent news in the injury report this week 🤞

Gutsy win with all the injuries mounting up. It's not the easiest watch but they are working better as a unit.

We are so close to finals. This win now means it is in our control and gives us a buffer just in case but ideally, we win 1 more to earn a home final. Just need to not let North absolutely ruin our percentage next week.

Great win. I love Trudgeon. Smith huge. Giorgia's goal. Wardlaw is just a battering ram, has such an impact even when she's Just near the ball. Just an awesome game.

Lets hope Patrikios is okay, was getting her calves rubbed before being "subbed" so hopefully it was just extreme cramp.

The girls are running out of fit soldiers.Anna Clarke stepped up last couple of weeks. PoD is she is quick and takes the game on which is great to watch.
I always worry that we play against sides that seem to have better system and chain of possessions and link up very well like Blues did, but they make one mistake and boom we get it and score. It's not pretty bit damn effective.
Won't hold up against top 2 sides as they will not make the mistake. But we are getting better as a team each week built in a rock solid defence.
Oh and Ty Smith can play.
We will make finals and likely lose the first final as we will just not have enough high calibre players to put on the park to compete against the best.

We need, bit like the boys, another year of solid recruiting and some young running hbf and we will only get better from here.

Go Saints

Jessie Wardlaw desperately needs some help up forward. Besanko has been a dissapointment. Also need a genuine ruck. Caris isnt the answer and using Ott who isnt a natural ruck isnt ideal.

Having Smith and GP both on the park consistently has really helped and Lambert is just a gun. The trading in of her, Watson and Wardlaw has been far and away the best trade or draft success of our time in the comp. Our drafting has been generally very poor.

That’s massively harsh on a first season 19 yr old draftee.
Has not been rising star sort of level, but is tall player thrown in the deep end while the team is depleted with injuries across the board.
She’s a tall forward/ruck relief. How many do you know that come out in their first season and dominate as a teenager?

Agree and agree.

That off season was unbelievably pivotal, I thought at the time it was a pretty brave call to move on Greiser, Sheirlaw and Tarni White - who all at the time were key players for us, albeit inconsistent. This was also around the time Lucas-Rodd left as an expansion signing.

White + Shierlaw = Lambert, Chicocci & 31
Greiser = Pick 14 + Plane

6 + 14 + 31 + Clara Fitzpatrick = Wardlaw & Watson

White/Shierlaw/Greiser/Fitzpatrick/1st Pick -> Wardlaw/Watson/Lambert/Chicocci/Plane

And then to get Paige Trudgeon off Carlton for Pick 31 the next trade period was another great trade

Saints barely get any coverage about the goings on inside the 4 walls, but it does seem like there's alot of connection and genuine exuberance amongst the playing group based on matches - feel like we're cooking if we can just nail the draft and find us a supremely skilled 18yo who's benefited from having that established development pathway since juniors

Agree with all the above and would add the significant improvement of lower profile players like Alice Burke, who has been there from the beginning, has also contributed to our team improvement.

Sorry, disappointment might be a but harsh, but has averaged 4d and 0.6m a game so far.

I feel like we improved 50% overnight the moment Wardlaw walked through the door. She's a genuine match winner. In a perfect world we'd have two of her, play one forward and one in the ruck.
