Autopsy Saints v Dees

Well I stayed away from here for my own mental health until now, but for those calling for a lynching it has since emerged that TDK was suffering from a virus, and for those that didn't pick it up, Pou, who had a low disposal count in the second half, was last seen by me on the broadcast sitting on the bench having his right leg strapped. Noted in the game report he is listed as having a corked quad.....

Not ideal and another game we should have won, but it will come, the cohesion. And I am confident in saying that when it clicks for them, we will beat teams people currently have us marked down to lose against. I remember this happening before with RTB. The system suddenly clicked and we went on a run in the back half of a season where we rolled through everyone and I think narrowly missed finals. The following season we started decimating teams.......surgically.

If we play Hally as that link up mid/high fwd we’ll kill it. He’s like a half back in that his ball distribution is elite. Scans and Picks out his player in an instant and bullets the pass to them. None of this long bomb shit.
If worse comes to worse he just kicks it himself and can kick a decent long range goal. Maxy is the player with ball in hand I’d trust with my left nut.
In Maxy we trust.
I’ll definitely get hound down for it, I think Hall is more important to us than Nas. Hall is a true mid (in juniors) who can also play HF at an extreme high level.. Nas can pinch hit in the middle, but at this stage he can’t win his own ball and relies on teammates to give him the ball, we need Hall or Macrae to get the ball first, Nas to run by for handball receives kicking into 50

Its beyond believe that he isn't at more centre bounces

Bloody hell I couldn’t get past the first four pages of this thread, the overreacting is nuts.

Am I worried? Absolutely. But we’ve lost two games by two goals, and the things to fix are obvious. Simple dropped marks and set shot misses have killed us in both matches.
Dropped marks, fumbles, turnover under little pressure are only the symptoms of a dis-functional midfield where you don’t have 1-2 mids who can consistently win it clean and get the ball to outside for a clean disposal, one fumble/rushed/slightly under-hit handball/kick leads to next crap disposal and builds perceived pressure, ends up with a simple drop mark/kick which other sides do consistently without issues.. Fix the midfield mix and setup/positioning, we’ll be better for it.

I don’t know anything about it but from what I’ve seen, he may have that same trait that Goddard had, where if you weren’t there to get better, you’re in the way. He’s not there to make friends, he’s there to be as good at footy as possible.

Can see how that could rub others the wrong way
Mason Wood has also said that Phillipou didn't cope well being around people all the time. It's why he didnt last long in Wood's house and why he moved in by himself instead. So he might just be the type who is happy and content being by himself which can be off-putting for others in a team environment where almost everything is done as a group.

Some post game day notes.

This is not effort. I’m sorry but anyone who says the players don’t care doesn’t have a clue.

Excecution, composure. That is another thing.

More scoring shots
More contested possessions

Now the question remains. Is it the players, game plan or both. Are we jelling, are we switched on?
Everyone talks about the waste high goal. What about the 666 infringement. I’m pretty sure they kicked a goal from it. It is absolfu&)inlutly inexcusable the halfway through the second quarter that happans. I don’t care if it’s TDK, Max Gawn or Alex Dodson it is just absolute shithouse. Add in Naz going to the bench and being turned away. Something is a mess from the coaching and direction to the players.

Interestingly the coaches made reference in the documentary about having the backline train together lots. It looks like an absolute ‘cluster*+%k right now’.

Camaniti making dumb errors
Carrol 50/50 with his kick. No true small lockdown defender. Silvagni not giving a care with his disposal.

Our most reliable defender had one of his worst games and is not being allowed to play his best game.
The instructions to handball , always are causing us to go undone and the turnovers only amplify the lack of defensive structure.

I think perhaps the coaches underestimated how the last touch rule would just increase the speed and veracity of inside 50s. It’s not all on cama.

Up the ground it’s not much better. Wood and hill have good moments but as our experienced guys are not excecuting under pressure. It’s just not good enough and kills us and the defenders.

Midfield is also a quick put together midfield with guys with no number 1 guy rn. No ball pig.

Ffs Pou is still developing.
Naz injured and Flanders , well he’s the one who should be copping the heat. Someone brought in for composure and ball use. Fumbly, kicks in the air and scared of contact.

Up forward lacking pressure , dumb decisions and dropping marks. Worst of all poor conversion.

Once again those missed opportunities play a much bigger role than anything else.

Max hall the bright star. Naz whether he’s injured or not just let him play a qtr or half in one spot hb or midfield so he can impact and get us going.

I trust Dalrympal far more than I trust SOS. Enough Carlton rejects… pls

Why we have not built cover for king is rediculous. Why we signed his son to a mill a year contract … rediculous. If you think Pou is a bit different and aloof. Think about JSOS’s impact socially has been.

From here I think we’ll snag one of the next two. Does it matter tho ?

He’s a bit unique but who actually cares. So was GAJ , Fyfe, honestly if the group can’t see that he’s just trying to be the best player then grow up.

I’m more concerned about JSOS tbh and how that could impact things.

Who actually thought things would click instantly with a new team? I’m disappointed af but we’ve played like dog shit and lost 2 games by 2 kicks.
I was saying this to Mrs. TJ. It's only round 2 and maybe too early to tell. We can only look at it two ways.
1. We played against a fresh Collingwood - last years prelim finalists - and would've won if things had of clicked a little better (skills and composure)
We then played Melbourne buzzing with a new coach, and nearly won...if not for things not clicking properly (skills and composure, or a dead cat can bounce)
Or.
2. Due to a lack of skills, game sense, and composure we got slapped around by two middling teams we should've bet, and we will be relentlessly savaged without lube by the better teams we play in the next few weeks.

Oh, how Mrs.TJ laughed at my ponderings.

We need to see more to form a true opinion.
We live in dwindling hope and or denial.
But the real truth is...do we really want to know?

Weekly request for Ross to move Caminiti forward. He's just had 6 kicked on him by Jacob Van Rooyen of all people. Yes, the midfield was poor with some of their defensive efforts but Camma can only be excused so much before it's his problem

Our forward line wasn't terrible against Melbourne but its still pretty clear we're missing that focal point - like a JVR. Caminiti takes the #1 defender so that Sharman doesnt have to cop Petty, Owens doesn't have to cop Turner, and Ryan doesn't have to cop Lever. I don't understand why we haven't at least tried it for a half of football especially since we have so much flexibility now with the 5th man on the bench, not to mention the fact that Keeler can also play a bit in defence

At this point I don't think a smaller defence of Silvagni, Wilkie, Tauru would be much worse than this 4-tall setup. Something about it is not working. Is it too tall, too slow, or too inexperienced even? Would have to think Stocker comes in next week but will be interesting who goes out

Hopefully Howard was decent in the VFL
As an example: with about 2 mins left in the last quarter, Wilkie and Hammer had the outnumber on Van Rooyen. The ball was drifting left toward Wilkie, and he (hammer) just needed to muscle off VR and let his teammate take the mark as VR was out of the contest pretty much. Hammer leaps and literally spoils Wilkie's mark to his right. NEEDS to go forward or into the 2's.

Phillipou’s sponsor (I think) trashing our forwards coach on X

Kornes and King surprisingly didn't torch us as much as I thought they would. I thought King's comment about Max Hall as our second best player at the moment and should be sent into the guts had merit.

Venting your spleen is fine, but a few should take a deep breath and listen to King's comments. That said agree with Kane that we should be playing a final this year, still reckon we will.

Yep, looked lost at sea in terms of who is responsible for what. The look on Sinclair's face when Kozzy snapped that chest high goal through with no one on the line, even he knew it was shit immediately. This group would want to pull their fingers out right quick.
Im not sure sinclair has any leadership qualities. He does a nice 15 metre pass sideways like 20 times a game though. Doesnt mind a critical error at the wrong time either.

He is ripping us apart tonight.

I wouldn't say we we're being ripped apart, all pretty legitimate discussion. The only really contentious part is the 2 mil 'learning curve' money.

I didn't want to pay Nas 2 mil. In the end the market dictated we had to and our hand was forced to an extent. What were the other options ? Disaster or Total ****ing train wreck.

Roo was right, at 22 doesn't matter how much money you're on your still not going to be the messiah every game and you are still going to need development. I believe giving Nas the rope to make his own mistakes to an extent ties him emotionally to the club long term. With all the faith ( and money ) being shown I believe he is the type to feel like he needs to repay that.

( FWIW also strongly suspect he was playing injured on the weekend )
