Port Adelaide have only really beaten us one way lately - clearance dominance and quality. They and Brisbane beat us this way. So we need to be much, much better at breaking even at clearance and preventing conceding quality, front-of-stoppage clearance than we were last time out at Adelaide Oval. Otherwise, I suspect, nothing else really matters.
We were noticeably less good in the centre square last week, especially the first half. The Steele-Macrae-Marshall combo against Geelong seemed to stop the weakness where other teams just walk the ball out of the centre. That's all we need to do at centre bounces, IMO - not get smashed. B/c our game revolves around turnover and rebound. But I think we're a chance to get smashed again if Steele is not there.

INJack Steele, Liam Stocker, Harry Boyd, Hugh Boxshall
OUTLiam O'Connell (Injured)
Hmmm, two mids and a ruck, who else is out?
Sunday afternoon, would say Steele and Stocker the only definite ins this week so far.

I really hope we rough JHF up!

Make his day hard and shit, and if he overcomes that - well played.

Just don’t make it easy for him.

Odds on he will sook it up!

Massive game for the club - the AFL world is sitting back starting to notice us (prob including players we are chasing), we get pumped, and a lot of good work is undone!
100% this. In the past we have not handled expectation, and the positive pressure to perform that comes with expectation, at all well.
The next couple of games are future defining, not just for 2025, but for the next couple of years. We have openly spoken about our intent and what the club is about.
The time to prove it is NOW.
If we win (and I think this is THE game to win out of the next two) and we go on to square up or tilt the ledger our way over the next five games, it will place some very good and formidable foundations down for the future.

Of course port get the cavalry this week

Just our luck that Butters returns for our game, he is their only notable inclusion though and we have get Steele returning too.

Steele in for O'Connell could be our only change, Stocker may come in for Hastie though with Boyd and Boxshall just back ups.

Is he running at full pace yet? I'm thinking we'll be lucky to see him until he can play three weeks of solid full pace training/match sim/VFL. Not sure how far that is away but I'm thinking he's training fully next week so a month away from seniors minimum. Only heard that he is slow jogging around the oval so far.
Surely has to come back via the VFL for a couple of games...especially if the forward line is functioning well and with no injuries.

I guess it depends on fitness more than touch. If he trains he should develop his touch back.

From what i understand gringo he was doing light running this week, you would think he would need at least 4 weeks full training? He doesn't have a great tank at the best of times and will be close to 10 months out footy, i would be bringing him back through Sandy

Tough to drop Travaglia after last week, but I'd love to see The Box-cutter debut

It will probably depend where the coaches believe we need boosting.

Boxshall is physically more mature and stronger. So if they want another mid option.

Whereas if they are keener on more outside run Tobie may have the edge.

Having said that either could be the Sub, and also either or both could miss the 23.

The Boxcar does look big bodied. He won't be rag dolled. I was wondering if he could fill in for Webby (both 188cm) if he is out, but it seems that he is a mid only? And Webster has reach and defence craft.

jUsT oUR LuCk the oppo can field an AFL team. There is no luck, win or don’t.

Yeah who gives a **** if Butters is back. Who cares if they're fielding the strongest team in AFL history. It's our 22 versus their 22. If we really believe we're in this caper for a premiership then we need to win games and not stress about who comes in or who misses out. If Bont is back in a few weeks, bring it on. You need to beat the best to be the best.
