And to add to the discussion, without wishing to denigrate anybody or any site, all the various forums have 'their place' amongst Saints fans.

As somebody pointed out earlier, saintsational managed to sponsor 5 players last year and put $7750 into the coffers of St Kilda FC.

In fact I believe they are the single biggest 'player sponsor' that the Club has?

And yes, there is lots of argy-bargy that goes on there (including from me at times), but there is also lots of healthy discussion on a myriad of topics concerning the Saints.

Your moderating style is exactly what it should be..moderate; which keeps this place on an even keel and prevents the flame-wars seen elsewhere.

You chose to lead by example, rather than 'rule' the St Kilda Forum....and you do a superb job in keeping the trolls at bay.

so what is the forensic profile of a good Moderator?

I'm not quite sure what the ideal moderator is, but I do try to keep this board pretty much a "safe house" for Saints supporters.

There is enough scope to troll sainters on the main board as well as Bay 13, let alone the delight that other club's posters have highlighting our bad luck, our faults and giving detailed accounts of their perceptions of us whilst overlooking any positive aspects brilliantly.

I still want to allow some "outside" commentary on our board, so posters from other clubs are encouraged to contribute too. It doesn't have to be positive commentary, but it does have to be respectful.

I rarely infract Saints, I tend to have a word with them and they are self correcting for the most part. I did ban a Saints poster a while ago and noticed that this poster returned with a different account. I waited to see what would eventuate and the second account was banned by someone else.
Shit happens.

I thank BakesFan for his praise, but I am open for criticism as well.

Sometimes I don't read all the threads, and sometimes I don't check out the reported posts immediately, I do devote a great deal of time to trying to make this forum a decent one, but I'm sure I could do things better. I won't speak for Sainter because he is probably a better moderator than I will ever be.

Saintsational does good work and can get angry during the season but if you like that sort of thing its good. True Sainters is a good forum too and a lot friendlier. They also have chat and lots of interesting stuff on it. Saints Footy on facebook is pretty new and from what I have seen has zero tolerance for swaering or attacks and it's pretty clear on the page so pretty different to saintsational but pretty colurful and for families. They all sponsor players which is good. Don't know anything about a website called Saints Footy. I think there is room for different pages. St Kilda has 60000 on it so there are lots of Saints people out there and lots of way to do a site. Like Joffaboy kinda said, choose your pleasure or choose all.

Whilst it's all well and good that congregations of fans who met via these online mediums are able to impact the club financially through sponsorships, I do not think it the mettle of a place or the respect that it has if they then sponsored X amount of players as opposed to Y, all contributions should be treated as equal and a testament to the individuals partaking as opposed to the banner they went under. That being said, it's a bit harsh to begrudge any forum or fan made effort merely because you had poor experiences there and otherwise left or dislike it for it has still contributed to your outlook on the fandom, players, staff & services and the individuals involved in a positive way to then form a positive opinion on (despite the content of said opinion being in the negative)

After all, we're all on these sites for the same reason are we not?

Information I have is that the admin of Saintsational are on to it but it will take a bit of time because of the holiday period. My guess is that it probably won't be back up until at least Wednesday !!

Saintsational is also an exceptional social medium as well. Members gather for a quiet ale or three before ALL games in Melbourne. These numbers really swell at "The Corner" at finals time. They also have the Summer Footy Matches against forums from Collingwood, Essendon, Melbourne and others.

I can honestly say that I have enjoyed (and still do) the company of ALL of the people that I have met via Saintsational !!

We won't be tolerating their rubbish on this site.

I'm sure there's an actual reason why there are people on that site who have been allowed to take over threads with their own petty arguments for the past 2-3 years seemingly without consequences but I'm not quite sure what it is.

You are far too generous and very wrong on that.

I agree with the rest of what you've said though. I'm not always online and in fact can confess to spending very little time online in the last week or so but that's why we constantly ask you all to report any posts that you aren't happy with. We immediately receive an email and then can log in and deal with the posts promptly.

As for other forums, I agree with what JB said. There are a number of other forums and they each have their strengths and weaknesses. I'm a member of Saintsational and Saints Footy as well.

Whilst I'm not an expert on Saintsational posters, I see some of the more aggressive characters are now showing up on this site and a couple are even posting on this thread.

Some are even using the same sign-on, others are only slightly disguised.

All are no doubt welcome, as long as they behave themselves to the satisfaction of our erstwhile moderators.

Either either, they're inflammatory words.

If that was a reference to me then there is a very simple explanation.
I registerd my saintsational name Mr Magic some time ago using an email address that is no longer valid.
I found I needed to re-register to gain access to posting on BigFooty and couldn't use my original nic so had to change it to Mister Magic.
Nothing devious or underhanded as the post implies.
Just simple circumstances.

Maybe if more posters didn't 'suspect' every post then there wouldn't be as much argy-bargy on all forums including saintsational?

You don't, however int he cases of unpopular opinions people will often refer to join date as a methodology of how knowledgeable an individual is or how much "respect" they have garnered on the forum to then take at their word, similar to any Collingwood supporter who joined up in November - December of last year to hang shit, despite the fact some may have been paid up members for in excess of decades were treated with contempt mainly because they signed up after the premiership was won.

Otherwise, ignore them, if you know the reasons for things happening and they don't then things only really need explaining if they are inflammatory, otherwise they wash off as they are just words and you have given no meaning to them for them to be harmful.
