Im missing Saintsational too, but I guess that if it was going to crash, this is the quietest time of year footy-wise for it to happen

As others have said, theres now plenty of other online and social media outlets to read and discuss the Saints, ranging from the Official Club site right through to a plethora of Facebook pages and twitter feeds (I'll blatantly plug right here tbat Ive just started a Facebook page for the Moorabbin Wing)

My one concern however is the 2011 SS player sponsorship. Mr Magic has done an absolutely outstanding job in previous years organising the sponsorship of up to 5 players, providing as has been said a healthy kick into the Clubs coffers. This years sponsorship was just getting organised when the site when down. SS is the glue that holds the sponsorship together and if its future short-term even is bleak, Id hate to see the sponsorship collapse

Mr Magic, how can we keep this going if SS doesnt exist for a little while?

I'm not too concerned as yet - The Club Admin is basicly on 'holidays' and they have shown in the past that they value our contribution and will bend over backwards to assist us, even allowing us to 'chop/change' some of the 'prizes' to suit our timeframe.
I'm actually awaiting a response from them as to which players are avaialable and which players currently have no sponsorship.

If the site stays 'down' until end February then we may have a problem!

If that was a reference to me then there is a very simple explanation.
I registerd my saintsational name Mr Magic some time ago using an email address that is no longer valid.
I found I needed to re-register to gain access to posting on BigFooty and couldn't use my original nic so had to change it to Mister Magic.
Nothing devious or underhanded as the post implies.
Just simple circumstances.

Maybe if more posters didn't 'suspect' every post then there wouldn't be as much argy-bargy on all forums including saintsational?

I didn't realize that you had to be a 'long-standing' member to be able to partake in the debates on here.
My apologies for any offence I may have unwittingly caused by posting on here.

The Brooks reference would appear to be another unnecessary sledge that is part of the attitude issue you've alluded to.

I'm starting to understand why different Saints supporter forums exist. Saintsational can't return quick enough.

Its the exact reason why the club closed down Saints Central cos it just turned nasty and they just didnt want to deal with it.

You are quite correct. All I did was mention how fellow saints supporters insult one another over on that other forum and one poster choose to misinterpret it for whatever reason.

My original post wasn't that hard to understand, but for some reason that poster has taken offence and is now trying pretty hard to be either argumentative or insulting.

Umm seriously, if you thought Mr Magic's attitude argumentative or aggressive, you'd last about 2 secs on SS. Mr Magic is one of the true gentlemen of that site, and I read his comments as a genuine attempt not to start a fight. You have to do that on SS sometimes trust me

Ive not been a regular visitor here, but when I have Ive always been impressed with the "tone" of the Forum. It seems bereft of the few keyboard warriors on SS, who whilst their love of t he Saints is undeniable, they do not have the ability to "turn the other cheek" and when their favorite "target" posts cannot help but play the man and sledge them no matter what the topic. Back and forward it goes til everyone is bored witless

Facebook on the other hand, whilst now being discovered by those who remember that Paul McCartney was in a band once, is till dominated by a mix of "How da **ck does Raph get a game every week he's crap" and "Saintz rool dey are da best and will sh*t in da flag in 2011".

This place seems pretty intelligent. I look forward to sticking around for a while. Huge props to the mods for making it so

What's with you Saintsational guys. If you are referring to me, I wasn't referring to Mr Magic in any of my original posts, and my comment earlier on this page was a reference to a poster calling me Brookes or something similar.

The problem at the moment is that some of your so called key board warriors are importing their aggressive posting styles to this forum, unfortunately.

To be fair, Saints Central was more in line with what the herald sun wanted with their superfooty forum except more specialised, you run into far too many issues as far as legalities go when you, as an entity, are attached to a forum of expression that you then have to disassociate with or tip toe around that people arguing amongst themselves is the least of your problems.

Unless Telstra threatening legal action for copyright infringement is somehow a lesser reason than Harry telling Harry he's a bit of a wank.

I would of course be of the opinion that Saints central closed because several individuals wished to turn it into an elitist "members only" area of the internet, and such stupidity caused a chain reaction that made the servers explode trying to comprehend the request.

I thought it was obvious enough. I was illustrating your quite blatant double standards.

In the same breath you claimed you didn't understand how Saintsational posters would denigrate their own, fellow Saints supporters; whilst a moment later going on to assert, in an underhand manner mind you, that certain "aggressive" rolleyes:) SS posters were not welcome here and surviving only due to the good will of the Moderators. Wouldn't that later part be denigrating your fellow, Saints supporters?

Get a fricking grip Brooks. These are internet forums, populated by passionate Saints. We're not talking international politics or the fact that the world is running out of water and resources. Sure, Saintsational can be irreverent, illogical, irrational and even irritating. But I think that's part of what signifies it's charm.

I must say it reeks of meek grandstanding that you get on here and say, 'You guys abuse each other too much! We're all on the same team! How can you do that?! ... ... ... BTW - you're not welcome here, you, you, Aggressive!!!!!" Reminds me of the Judean's Peoples Front. Or is it the Peoples Front of Judea!?

I would also suggest that SS has quite a following, amongst laymen, journos and all in-between. From an individual Club point of view, it'd be up there as one of the biggest Forum's for sure.

Have a look at my join date on BF. I have been around longer than probably anyone on this forum, and have posted on here probably since BF had team boards.

I post on SS and have been known to get into some argy bargy. I have posted on the BF Gen Footy Forum before Bay13 and was pretty up front there as well.

However if i post here or on Saints Footy Facebook page or SS or whereever, I respect the prevailing moderation standard. It is rare that you would find me aggressive on this forum, the mods would see to it that i was promptly dealt with.

Instead of doing exactly what you accuse SS posters of doing, i.e. getting argumentative, I thought the best attitude would be to welcome SS members and not attempt to lecture them on BF standards.

From a member of over 10 years at BF, welcome SS members, you will find this forum different to SS, and as some others have said a welcome respite from the cleaner/albert infantilities of those to clowns.

Well I've spent part of today 'debating' serious issues on the Main Forum with some Collingwood (and a few other Club) supporters.

It's been a truly educational experience.
I didn't realize that here in Australia we actaully have another religion - The Myth of Collingwood with its High Priest Eddie.

It confirmed my long held suspicions that about 1 in 10 of them actually have a clue about the game.

Very entertaining though reading them gee each other up with arguments about how good/great all things Collingwood are.

As for here, garth p is correct. I for one had no real idea how things occured here.
I wrongly imagined that it would be like so many other forums and when posters made general statements like 'you Saintsational guys' they were aimed at everyone in general.
How silly of me to not understand that 'general statements' are actually aimed at specific individual posters. And how silly of me not to know that I wasn't the intended target of that 'general statement'.
I surely won't make that mistake again.
I now know that any 'general statement' made by garth p is actually a specific statement to Quixote.

Please forgive me my foibles gained from exposure to saintsational.
I really should have known that I was 'guilty' of something purely by association.

Seriuosly though,
Could someone please explain what the issue is?
Why this seeming animosity from some towards posters from saintsational?
Unless they've 'misbehaved' here previously, why wouldn't this foruim be welcoming new posters?
Surely the more posters the better the discussions?

Can't wait for SS to be up again. Bigfooty is a poor second cousin, sorry if I offend anyone.....I love a bit of the argy/bargy on SS, it's all good fun, especially in the off season.

I can't believe that we only have 115K for St Kilda, whilst most other teams are around 400K mark.....why is that St Kilda board so unpopular?

Why is it less than Sydney and Brisbane and the Western Bulldogs?

Saintsational maybe part of the reason, or maybe Saints fans are not much chop when it comes to internet forums??

What does everyone think?

I wouldn't say there's a lot of animosity here.

There are a number of internet forums for Saints supporters and people are entitled to post on as many or as few of them as they like.

The amount of traffic and the way they are moderated is quite different (which I know from subscribing to Saintsational and Saints Footy) and as a result people will have different opinions on the merits of each particular site.

All we ask on here is that any new posters respect the rules of our board and the existing posters are respectful of the newer supporters.

As for the comment from above, yes, we are one of the quieter boards on Bigfooty and it is due to the traffic that Saintsational receives. For some clubs, their Bigfooty team board is actually their main forum. For others, they don't have an alternative board the size of Saintsational. However, the quality of our contributors and the discussion on this board makes up for that.

I have posted on many online discussion forums covering a wide range of topics. IMO Saintsational remains consistently the most interesting and enjoyable. You encounter people from all walks of life, but who share a common interest. You get an intense and robust form of debate, with a lot of humour.

Without wanting to denigrate the efforts of anyone involved, this place just doesn't have the atmosphere of SS. What's the point of an online forum if everyone is going to be in violent agreement with each other? Some seem to want it, but I find it dullsville.

The main big footy forum is sometimes interesting, but can too often descend into trench warfare between noisy supporters of rival clubs.

So I want SS back. Bloody hackers.
