What were the reasons behind getting rid of Sal Hassan last year ?

His performances for West Adelaide rated as in the media best each week accoring to the Port Adelaide website, yet he didn't get a senior game even when he was promoted following the injury to Primus last year.

I work for the Western Bulldogs VFL affiliate, Werribee and he's playing for us this year. His first two games for us have been nothing short of outstanding and hope that he gets another chance at AFL level.

YEah was terrific for Westies, but never had a chance of getting a game for Port. If he was here now, even with all the injuries, I still doubt he'd get a look in. Will be terrific for Werribee though

I always liked Salim since I first saw him ply in a SF for West a cpl years ago. Was shocked he didnt stay on the list since he was one of Westies best players last year. I hope he does get a decent crack at AFL and all the best to him, would love to see him become a great AFL player.

Could have made it at a different club I think. Our midfield was fit and rock solid for the whole second half of the year and we had players like Salopek, Ebert and Dew trying to get back in the side.

His SANFL stats last year:
20 games
404 disposals
75 marks
11 goals
13 times in the best players

Was the pre count favourite for the Magarey Medal but didnt poll anywhere near as much as he should have.

Incredibly versatile small who is an excellent tagger, a fantastic ballwinner in his own right, a goal kicker and has that touch of the unknown factor about him (Took mark of the year in the Prelim final two years back...injured himself in doing so).

Dunno what his role could have been at AFL level. Probably a tagger or small forward.

So he most definately did all the hard yards for West Adelaide in the SANFL then.

I think his plight is very similar to Jeremy Clayton, now at Port Adelaide Magpies in the SANFL. Whilst he was a standout for Port Melbourne virtually every week, yet he still coudn't get a look in with the Kangaroos.

Hope Jeremy gets another chance at AFL level.

Couldn't we do with him now, running around the forward lines roving to our tall timber. Also he was is a fantastic chaser and tackler which is also much needed in our forward lines to lock the ball in.

Very courageous little play, I hope he does well and get's another shot in the big league.

Sal, left because of that ?

I thought he was just got ridden of by Power as he has done his two years as rookie, however it would have been a good idea to retain him on the list for another year at least.

He was a Port rookie for one year only. He came over to SA in 2003 and played a major part in West making the Grand Final. Port rookied him at the end of 2003 for 2004. He had another very good year, was favourite for the Magarey and won the Football Budget POTY Award.

History shows that Port pick up an "experienced" rookie every year. Tom Carr, Ben Hollands, Jaxon Crabb, Scott Borlace, Sal Hassan, RFK. They are there for backup reasons and in every case have been delisted at years end.

I would have liked Sal to have another year on the list.

I work at Westies and apparently, a lot of the players and the trainers said the reason why he left Westies cause he became home sick.
Home sick?
Then why didn't he return to the NT? Isn't that where he's from originally.

Family is in Victoria. Played footy up in NT where we found him I believe.
Yeah, that's right he was playing for Palmerston in the NTFL alongside the likes of Aaron Davey and Edward Darcy.

Darcy is playing for us (Werribee) this year and shouldn't be too far from senior selection. He originally is from the Tee Wee islands.

He was the Michael Long Scholarship holder in 2002, turning out for the Bendigo Bombers in 2002 and training with Essendon.

Sal made the state side and didn't stop running all day.

He got more of an opportunity in the second half and was surprised to see that he didn't make the best.

Did anyone else see his screamer ?

How does it compare to the he took for West Adelaide in a final a few years back ?
