What would be interesting is if this went to court, could we request phone and email records of people like Vlad and Gill.

That would be most interesting given it seems much of the evidence presented (at least publicly) is based on email and phone records.

Playing devils advocate here - and ill get flamed - but Hirds main problem I think is he DID involve himself - he was pretty close with Dank and Weapon and was across some of what they were doing (from text messages).

Not that he ever wanted anything illegal to happen - in fact he insisted the opposite - but I think he actually has a bit of an interest in the area of sport science (probably stemming from his own injuries), and thus was more intimently involved in it than other coaches, who leave it completely up to the doctors and fitness staff.

Personally, I don't give a stuff over how close he was.

The issue, right now, is that records weren't keep, creating an environment that something bad could have happened.

Now, the question that needs to be answered- who dropped the ball in the record keeping?

Us on the public, we have no idea on how the internal working of the football club worked- nor do the other idiots out there calling for Hirds head.

I've used this analogy many times in the past, but if the COO of an organisation, called for IT to beef up the servers, I find it hard to believe it's his fault if the network guy left a massive security hole in the hardware- which potentially could have gotten them hacked.

One thing that continues to shit me throughout this saga is that more people are talking about the club meaning more and more people are saying Essington, Essedon etc.

It's ******* ESSENDON you flogs.

The more this drags on the more things that usually grate me a little are starting to seriously piss me off.

I agree - I can see there being club sanctions here, but in terms of individual sanctions for off field staff, except in cases of gross and deliberate wrongdoing (a proper doping program etc), I think it's ridiculous.

The club stuffed up here, so whack the club. They can deal with their own staff internally.

The AFL have started going after individuals and I think it's dangerous territory, as they will always fight to the end. They did it with Melbourne and Adelaide, they've done it this time, and just might have picked the wrong fight. Time will tell.

There's be certain satisfaction in court, but it'd be better for everybody - including us - if we could get this sorted ASAP.

In the courts it'll drag into next year and possibly beyond. Yes Hird would be coaching us but how much longer can he be fighting this battle whilst trying to coach a side that might be nearing its window?

I think the view is if we have the sacrifice finals this year for it to be completely free of it, then it's the right option. It's hard to argue with that view.

Yes that probably includes Hirdy getting a suspension - but the alternative is him coaching next year with the weight of world (legally) on his shoulders anyway.

If we can be totally free of this come next year then it's an attractive option. I think the club actually recognises the potential of this group and don't want anything to jeopardise it over the next couple of years. What if we could win a flag? Of even two? That's what they're thinking about I believe.

Not surprisingly draft picks is a major sticking point. If they're going to do long term damage to us via draconian draft sanctions, then that could be the trigger to send us to battle legally.

If it was just a pick or two next year we'd probably take it - a couple of decent trades and we'll be back into the draft anyway.
I agree, there is also the "media" and the perception of Joe public.
I wonder how long it would take certain media types to realise the AFL could be totally screwed in a court room.
A judgement made in such an envrionment is generally accepted in the public eye too.

Any truth to this? or is the guy a troll

Good to know that the Essendon Players mum is legit and wasn't some hoax like some simpletons implied. At least the player is known now.

IF she is legit, and she was so concerned about what was going on, why the hell didn't she go to any information sessions or contact the club? Really crappy form to air your grievances on prime time radio without first trying to contact the club.

What's it got to do with being a 'simpleton'? It's actually called scepticism, but carry on.

Anyhow, where's the alleged legitimacy?

Useful? No.

Amusing? Well Patrick Smith tried to tell a caller it was not about taking sides. Right up there with his claim that no one believes Essendon set out to cheat.

I was actually shocked listening to McGuire this morning, and I'll paraphrase here, but it went something like this.

"To you Essendon fans out there how feel that it's the AFL against you, you forgot, Essendon cheated"

He bold faced, said that Essendon cheated. Not governance. No, cheated.

I find that very surprising. He has been incredibly neutral and fair this whole saga.

Some context would be nice. Or a direct quote

So McGuire now knows something we don't????
