Remember to take everything in moderation, including footy and Essendon.

The sanctions may be harsh but not crippling. They are not preferable but we'll take them and we'll work through them. It is lessons like these that will help make Essendon a better club in the future.

When you're red and black, you're red and black for life. You saw the effort and the emotions from the game on Saturday. If any club can get through this it's Essendon, especially thanks to the wonderful, undying support it has from us fans.

Chin up boys, we will come back stronger from this experience:thumbsu:

"we're going to fight the charges" and yet we accept the worst possible outcome for the club, absolutely disgusting i could not be more pissed off right now its unacceptable as a fan of the football club to hear a shitstorm about how we will fight against this only to give up and accept the most ridiculous sanctions ever to see the game of football. Never thought I would ever say this in my life but the AFL are a disgrace aswell as essendon. despicable

Paul Little's statement. What a load of ****. He's set to be the shortest serving chairman in Essendon history.

Listen, you didn't know what was going on in that room. You don't know what the AFL was holding over us. You don't know what choices he was facing. It's easy to sit here and complain about this, but if he hadn't have blustered, we may have copped 3 years of picks, with a 5m fine. So, to be honest, I trust that he cut us the best deal possible.

That is the problem with this whole process. Apart from about 50 people, nobody knows anything!

I don't see Hird coming back. Why would he when we ****** ourselves this bad

I do......he played a part in getting the club in this mess very minor or large is beside the point, he has some responsibility, whether the punishment of 12 months was warranted, that was up for the AFL to decide.....he needs to come back and help get the club out of this mess, he now owes the club and its supporters big time.

I think I've been to my last away game. I'll always support the club but I seriously hate the AFL right now.

Trying to be positive for a second, I think this alleged punishment is a backhanded compliment. They can throw all this at the club because they can. They know the club can wear it. They'd not want EFC, one of their major draw cards, to go the way Carlton did after being punished. But they can look big and tough to the public as well.

Just have to suck it up for a couple of days people. We'll get over this. Of that I am sure. And FFS, don't watch Footy Classified for your own health.

And it looks like we will never know which is the most disappointing result of this whole saga.

Little, Hird and and the rest have REALLY let the club down and led their supporters on. That's the most disappointing thing. Why the **** back down?
Why?

Because it gives us the best chance to win a flag in 2014 and/or beyond.

I have to admit I am VERY happy we don't get slapped with the wooden spoon (haven't "won" it since 1933)...

But the draft penalties make me sick.

Do we have any father-son picks coming through in this years draft?

With our 1st and 2nd round picks taken, the only way this could possibly be advantageous was if the we picked up another Joey D type in the THIRD round LOL

That would be a nice bit of revenge, no doubt.

Can people once and for all get it through their heads that infraction notices can still issued.

We cannot have been drawn into this farce if there was a chance that infraction notices could be issued. There is no where left to go for the AFL except to shut us down if we're doing for PES use.

Calm down guys. We can't change the punishment so it's all about our attitude and how we fight from here. We're not some joke of a club that let's these things hold them back. We are Essendon.

The biggest sanction in AFL history for a CONTROVERSIAL but not illegal supplement program. utter bullshit, not good enough, integrity of the game my ass its a fking joke. #firedemetriou

I really feel sorry for Essendon fans because ultimately you guys are the main losers out of this.

However I do have to say that from an outsider looking in, the whole standing up for Hird thing is tad alarming. He's the guy that has led you into this mess, yet most of you seem to be backing him in spite of this.

Bit of buzz (on here, at least) last year about Tom Fields - something of a Suckling type if memory serves? Remember though, we'd be outbid with even a second-round pick.

I think of it this way.

The AFL held a gun to our heads and basically said "Take this or take it to court." and showed Essendon the pineapple they had for us. We have been royally screwed over by the AFL. I understand their stance, but the scale of punishment has been adjusted UP because Essendon could afford the usual fine and it is screwed.

It hurts now, but the club has effectively fallen on it's sword to suffer short-term pain to get it over and done with fast.

Look at it long term. If the AFL reached a point and said as the governing body they weren't willing to budge, the only recourse Essendon would have would be to take them to court.

Sure, we'd get to play finals but we're not in a realistic position to win the flag. Even without this whole debacle I don't feel this was the year for our roster. Finals experience, at least winning a final, would be fantastic, but we're not in the same weight division as Hawthorn, Geelong or Sydney yet. Next season, quite believably possible, but not yet.

Do we want the club to go through this whole thing for another 12-18 months as the roster really hits its prime?

So the club has bent over, closed its eyes and painfully accepted the pineapple knowing that at least next season the players and the caretaker coach (I so hope it's Bomber Thompson) can turn in a full season without every ounce of focus being about this injection or that New Mexico country.

I think in the end, if next season the roster we have takes the field in the red and black with Goodwin or Thommo calling the shots, we're in a good position.

This statement:

['In the Deeds of Settlement, the AFL acknowledges that neither Essendon Football Club nor any of the individuals charged set out to implement a supplements program that would result in players being administered prohibited or potentially harmful substances.']

is crucial, because when someone people challenge our club's history in the future, that is the statement, that we didn't have a week ago, that vindicates us.

I know people are unhappy, and I understand why, because you were given hope that we might yet escape any sanctions. But don't crucify Little for it. He believed that the best thing to do was to reach a settlement and put this behind us, so we could approach the next season with a clear mind (with premiership coach Bomber Thompson in charge).

The spectre of the ASADA investigation still remains, which I'm not happy about, but I hope that with the severe club penalties that have been issued, there's reason to have some faith that they're not going to be so crass as to issue infractions against players without real evidence.

Wrong. If we want who-ever the father son is, then we have the right to use our next available pick on them. Eg. if Daniher was this year & GWS wanted him at #1, we could nominate to pick him up with our first selection in the draft which would be a 3rd round pick.

Stop comparing it to Carlton's situation. They had poor drafting and development for years on end. Sure, their sanctions didn't help the situation, but they would still have been a bottom team with their picks.

I am done....for all the talk, for the grandstanding, they just bent over and took it. Why wait this long if you were going to admit guilt. Why not admit it right away, stop all this bullshit and probably get less of a whack for being honest and upfront. The penalties to me seem very much we bit off more than we could chew and the AFL smacked us down for it!!

2 years of draft picks!!

I will always support the Bombers - but I don't know if I can love them anymore. Will see what happens in March.

Re: punishments, http://www.afl.com.au/news/2013-08-27/live-updates-dons-at-afl-house says "...2013 and 2014 national drafts, stripped of round one and two picks, but will get pick at end of round one in 2014."

EFC presser says "Loss of our first two draft selections in the 2013 National Draft and our 2nd round pick in 2014"

Someone needs to sort that shit out quick smart.
