I doubt it, I believe the game is in good shape, with just about every club breaking membership records each year. If the AFL made it's decisions on public opinion and that alone the game would be a mess..
I didn't say public opinion was the only thing the AFL cares about, just that it does (significantly) influence AFL decision making. This is why public opinion on the drugs saga matters unfortunately.

As you've alluded to with membership numbers, it's giving the public what it wants that has made the AFL so popular, not following principles and upholding standards.

The AFL has never had to make decisions like this before, and I reckon 99.8% of what they will decide in the end will be based on what ASADA say, not the opinions of the general public who have been whipped into a frenzy without any facts by the media...Or what media media say for that matter, massive fines and loss of draft picks will not be in the best interests of the AFL even if it makes the public feel better about it now.

My optimism has drastically changed , heard some bad news from a good source today that no players will get suspended but we will most certainly get points stripped. Not sure how much. I guess it would be alot so we dont play finals. Would be silly if they strip us of points and we manage to finish 8th. Sad newst tbh :( hopefully my source is wrong
You've said a similar thing at least 5 times, before changing your opinion another five times.

I think it would be hilarious if they stripped us of points but still left us enough to finish 8th and we then went on to win the flag. That is my new desired outcome.

Of course I know the point stripping thing is stupid and won't happen.

Yeah as others have said, ASADA would have known about Thymosin beta-4 since May when they interviewed the players+Charter. Reading that McKenzie/Baker article, looks like the players have a solid case of being deceived (the consent forms simply stated "thymosin", not sure how they were meant to figure out which form they would be receiving).

Just a question, but where is the "no Reid signature = no injection" stuff come from? Have players said somewhere that they wouldn't be taking anything if Doc Reid didn't consent to it?

Come on blokes, the guy has flip-flopped and come up with some howlers - of course, call him on that, but show a little bit of class otherwise - I like to think we're not bullies here

"Thymosin" on consent forms is the WADA safe one, not beta 4.
The name on the form is just Thymosin, not Thymosin alpha or TB4. This combined with the fact that Reid did not sign off on it makes me wonder if this was something dodgy Dank and Robinson were up to. It might sound odd but if we do get reamed out/banned I'll be happier if it was because someone like Dank went rogue and deceived the club rather than the club deliberately trying to cheat.

This section of the ACC report (pg32) makes for interesting reading given what Fairfax revealed on Saturday. The rogue theory seems highly likely IMO.
Yes, that's all starting to make sense a bit now. I wonder how much of our supposed secret supplements were saline while the real PEDs were taking to Dank's anti aging clinic. Pretty good scam really, if customs wonder why all this stuff is coming in he can point at the club and dump them in the shit. It also gives Dank a plausible excuse should the pharmacist ask why he wants all these drugs.
Setting up clandestine research/trials is ******* brazen though.

Excuse me, I don't recall giving anyone permission to put pictures of me onlineo_O

The Age now has their #1 story, with a Bombers jumber saying "players could be fined $5100 per day. The article actually refers to new powers allowing ASADA to force people to talk. Which has nothing to do with Essendon, who have fully cooperated. Clearly this is set up for Cronulla.

This is going beyond a joke.

Surely ASADA couldn't sanction players on the basis of probability only that a banned substance was given to players? Would that actually hold up in a real court?
I think they can. Would it hold up in court? Probably not.

ASADA need to have a watertight case in order to proceed with player charges or our lawyers will rip them apart. They can't get that with AOD so I guess all that's left is to mount a case for Thymosin use. There are a lot of coincidences surrounding Thymosin and Dank that are hard to explain. If they (and we) want the truth they'll need to interview him.

We should have been paid $5100 a day for calling on ASADA to investigate and throwing our doors open. Plus we provided them with a report into governance. The stupidity in reporting almost matches the Hot topics thread on BF.

Not at all, but if he was using one of the other variants why do the recommended dosages match?
Starting to look ugly.
Up till now, I have thought that Dank was merely cutting it fine with AOD and S0 approval etc, and maybe we would be ok.
But this latest Thymosin thing is starting to smell. We can wriggle and say it mightn't have been for Ess players, but the timing of the question to Charters, the ordering and the dosages etc are strong circumstantial evidence. Also the vague use of the word "Thymosin" rather than the specific legal variety on the consent forms, and the fact that counter signatory was Robinson, not Reid. They all look bad.

Maybe this is what EFC were referring to way back in the beginning, when they said they are not sure what may have been administered to players, and irregular practices etc.

And this time, if, all things considered, the evidence is enough to convict, then the club and the players involved are screwed. It would be justifiable to ban players and remove points gained this year for playing players who were getting an advantage from using illegal growth stimulants.

Much worse than AOD9604.
