Actually I posted this months back in Feb on the HTB board. The reason I found that article was mainly because I was looking at that time what sort of news stories were being printed about Dank and Robinson prior to them being hired by Essendon (it was in response to the usual claims that if Essendon had done no due diligence before hiring them they would have found things with a "30 second google search"). Anyway, pretty much everything about the two prior to 2011 was extremely positive about them.

Anyway, I hope there isn't anything to that link, bad enough as it is with us being in our position, it would destroy the competition if Geelong was found to have done anything. I find it quite disturbing that one of the charges against Thompson though was that he recommended Robinson being hired, despite knowing prior issues with him. I have no idea where that could lead, but it doesn't sound good.

Non that play Essendon
See, this is what I find ludicrous. How can they "downgrade" a penalty of doping if they have proof?

I say **** em, they want Hird's head for no other reason than he dared to go against the all powerful fat **** controller. We declared war, don't go waving the white flag 3 days afterwards, especially if the AFL don't have evidence.

Well we don't seem to have been charged with doping.

The charges mostly relate to

H.R
Record Management
OH&S
Taking questionable substances

well, apart from it seems rumply, I'm pretty much on my own. Because I'd be inclined to take that deal. I'd hate to see Hird go, but if we protect our draft picks, I believe that to be the most important thing.

Essentially, in a negotiation like this, both sides have to give up ground. Just saying "nup" is for me not realistic. We have to make concessions, in reality. I've felt for a while now that if we can quarantine this shit to this year then we should. I'd rather lose points than picks, x1,000,000.

Unfortunately Hird has ****** up, like it or not. If he has to go it sucks balls, but no-one is bigger than the club.

As well, it gives us a fresh start, and sadly I'm starting to think that's what we need.

If the club did make taht deal we'd see players leave in my opinion given their strong support of Hird.
maybe, maybe not. It's interesting because I had typed out a last line on that last post, saying it might depend on what the players felt about it.

I'm not sure they'd walk out. In fact, if some of the crap I'm hearing is true, it might help retain some of them. Possibly.

Can someone tell me where this punishment regarding us losing ANZAC day came from?

That "punishment" as absurd as us losing premiership points for the next three years
Most of the punishments come from people looking at our club, at the things they wish they had at their clubs and proposing those things get taken away from us. Hence why we've seen things like players forced to enter the draft (because who wouldn't want a chance of drafting Melksham or Daniher), ANZAC day cancelled/given or someone else (as we saw this year, other cubs are pretty keen to get in on this fixture), and salary cap penalties/reductions (because we'd be forced to give up some good players to other teams).

I would never want this for anyone. Geelong do not deserve to be investigated and should not be. Just because we have to suffer through BS charges (some of them are fair enough), doesn't mean Geelong should.

I get what you are saying, if the AFL was actually being fair. But if the AFL are being fair they should drop those particular charges against us, not investigate Geelong.

No, ASADA should investigate Geelong (or at least widen the investigation against Thompson, Dank, and Robinson). They should conduct a confidential investigation into what went on and they should release details of infraction notices (not interim reports). This is how all PED investigations occur. Subjecting a club (or worse, an individual) to the kind of speculation and "trial by media" that your club has had to go through is simply unacceptable. ASADA, the AFL, ACC or whoever else do not have the right to ruin reputations on speculation. Charge people, release those charges to the public, let the accused defend themselves.

This investigation is a disgrace. (and I am not making assumptions about guilt or otherwise, just the crazy way this has been conducted). If this were a criminal investigation, the prosecutors/investigators would get fired and all of the evidence captured would be inadmissible. The longer this goes on, the more of a shambles it becomes.

If anyone can actually tell me what other clubs stood to gain by siding with Essendon in this matter? I mean, was it possible for them to remain neutral at all? I just don't see that what happened yesterday was 17 clubs effectively declaring war on Essendon. Others may see it that way and that is their opinion.

That's fine, and if Hird has ****** up then he goes no questions asked. To be sacked for taking a personal drug which is legal that has nothing to do with anything would be ridiculous.

The club is always bigger than the individual, you still don't sell the individual short to appease to big tops. If they have proof Hird ****** up, then he goes, if they don't, then **** em.

Everyone wants this to be over, but I'd hate for us to fold for no reason other than 34 pages of hearsay and speculation.
