well, apart from it seems rumply, I'm pretty much on my own. Because I'd be inclined to take that deal. I'd hate to see Hird go, but if we protect our draft picks, I believe that to be the most important thing.

Essentially, in a negotiation like this, both sides have to give up ground. Just saying "nup" is for me not realistic. We have to make concessions, in reality.
I would rather sacrifice draft picks than throw anyone under a bus they didn't deserve just so we could keep draft picks.

Would that be any better than tanking for draft picks?

If Hird was okay with it without pressure and drug cheat stigma was officially and publicly removed from the charges by the AFL with a press conference, and Essendon extended Hird's contract as senior coach to ensure he came back then I could live with it, but would not be happy.

Oh and at the press conference, James Hird could piss on Demetriou's face Panesar style. With this, no deal.
The problem with any "deal" with the AFL is that it would involve gagging Hird/EFC from further comment or action. This is the sticking point for the individuals. TBH, if it came to it, I'd rather see Hird quit and continue with his legal action and take it as far as he can and show the low-life's for what they are, of course following up the AFL action with claims against Caro and the other media buzzards.

Could not agree more.

The mere thought of sacrificing good people for draft picks is making me incredibly angry.

See, this is what I find ludicrous. How can they "downgrade" a penalty of doping if they have proof?

I say **** em, they want Hird's head for no other reason than he dared to go against the all powerful fat **** controller. We declared war, don't go waving the white flag 3 days afterwards, especially if the AFL don't have evidence.
Exactly this!!

guys, before 2011 there was no S0. So Dank had a lot more freedom with the games he played at Geelong, sadly
It doesn't seem to be about PEDs anymore. Considering part of the charges against Essendon is the fact that they hired Robinson, well geez. When you think about it, the AFL could make a charge sheet like this for EVERY. SINGLE. CLUB. Imagine Clarko's sheet if they wanted to charge him for BTGID. It would be absolute cake. The fact is they could make one of these things for EVERYONE

Why are we now accepting Hird may well be gone based on a new deal?

Cerberus has said the ride might get bumpy, there was an article in The Australian at the same time suggesting a deal involving Hird.

Right through this saga we have been saying people are adding 1 and 1 to make 3. Are we doing the same thing right now?

The ride getting bumpy doesn't necessarily mean we've arrived at the destination.

IMO if any deals are being offered 'across parties', that's highly improper.

By all means offer - hypothetically - Hird a deal where if he admits to X then the penalty he will cop will be Y. He can then take it or leave it.

But if the prosecution offers a deal that says if he takes a bullet the 'other parties' will be treated better, that tells me that the prosecution doesn't want justice - they want a scalp - and / or the charges against the 'other parties' are flimsy in the first place.

Put another way, deals across parties are - at best - a means for someone to cop less punishment than they deserve at the expense of someone who cops more than they deserve.

I would never want this for anyone. Geelong do not deserve to be investigated and should not be. Just because we have to suffer through BS charges (some of them are fair enough), doesn't mean Geelong should.

I get what you are saying, if the AFL was actually being fair. But if the AFL are being fair they should drop those particular charges against us, not investigate Geelong.
No, to be consistent the AFL MUST investigate Geelong.

But they won't, and do you know why? Because the backlash would be far too great. There's no way in hell the AFL would survive going up against 2 clubs at the same time, so they won't touch GFC with a 10 foot pole.

The only thing they're trying to nail us with is Tb4 which is prohibited under S1-S9. S0 is irrelevant to us and Dank.

Agreed. Culture is really important at football clubs. We need to protect and enhance the Essendon culture with a view to the long term. How we responded in crisis will be remembered and will form a significant part of our culture and history. Short term pain for long term gain is whats required.

This. Quarantines the damage to this year is a key point, but would need to drop the charges against Hird and the others IMO.

Bomber T to coach for 12 months is not a bad option.

Fair enough, but in my opinion it's a little inconsistent to claim we want fairness and that those charges are bullshit on one hand while claiming Geelong should be investigated for bullshit reasons on the other.
Agree. I don't want to put GFC or its fans through this at all. I wouldn't wish it on anyone.

But if there's evidence to suggest that any other club has done anything that we've been charged for, including being associated with Robinson or Dank in any way, then the AFL/ASADA absolutely must investigate them as well. And that includes Melbourne, GC and GFC. Anything less would make the AFL and ASADA a bunch of hypocrites.

maybe, maybe not. It's interesting because I had typed out a last line on that last post, saying it might depend on what the players felt about it.

I'm not sure they'd walk out. In fact, if some of the crap I'm hearing is true, it might help retain some of them. Possibly.
We've come too far to relent. I think we're in it for the long haul. Hirdy being penalised = drug cheats to the rest the footy world for a long time. I worry that my kids will be ashamed to follow them. I want pride over future success. If it takes us ten years to challenge again I'd take that if the payout is redemption for the wrongs of this witch-hunt. We all need to be united behind Hirdy and the board or the division will cause our downfall and the media lies will have served their purpose.
