The thing that really shits me is Geelong fans citing some unknown event in 1995 as though it's fact. Its nothing but jealousy.

Last year after a BBQ I contacted Hutchison at the AFL and asked about any eivdence or articles of 1995 cap breaches. There was nothing. NOTHING.

Anytime anyone mentions or advises or suspects anything about 1995 being tainted I suggest you take a big dump on their shoes and highlight that there is no breach.

What would of been the mentality of the Sydney board to pay twice the salary cap.

Cue pics of dittsy blondes and pink helicopters. Go Swans!!

Didn't one G Williams get deregistered for 6 months when he moved to Carlton due to cheating issues???

Cheating issues involving him and the Swans, yes. Should add this one in.

Thanks to blueseum

Before he could pull on the famous number 2 guernsey for the Blues, however, there was one more ordeal that Diesel had to face. As part of their efforts to keep him in the Harbour City, the Swans had complained to the AFL that Williams had breached his contract by negotiating his switch to a rival club while he was still a registered Swans player. The AFL agreed to examine the matter, and promptly found that for some time, Williams – with the full knowledge and agreement of the Swans – had been receiving ‘under the counter’ extra payments of around $65,000 per year direct from one of the club’s major sponsors. Furthermore, Williams had signed a statutory declaration (as required by the standard player contract) that did not disclose these payments.
In a curious move by the AFL, both the Swans and Williams were charged with bringing the game into disrepute, and summonsed to a judicial hearing. Each party pleaded guilty. Sydney was fined $50,000, with half suspended on a good-behaviour bond for two years.

Williams - who claimed that he had simply done as he was asked, and signed a form placed under his nose by a former club chairman – was also fined $25,000 - and deregistered by the AFL for eleven weeks! It was a savage penalty that stunned even the most vehement of Carlton-haters, and brought protests from all quarters. But in the end, the idea of a protracted and expensive appeal was shelved, while Diesel and the Blues looked forward to his long-delayed first senior match.

Wasn't Andrew McKay was deregistered for sending letters to clubs and informing them that he didn't want to play with them?

Not sure about that. He was drafted fair and square by Carlton to start with and had no loyalty to us before he came. When he was doing his vet studies in Brisbane, there was some noise about him taking time off and wanting to get back to Carlton when he was finished, but we ended up not delisting him and just letting him play whenever he wanted to.

I can find no evidence about him being deregistered.

In 2002, Carlton were fined a record $987,500 and forfeited their priority picks in the National Draft, their first and second round picks in the National Draft for two years and were excluded from the 2003 pre-season draft after an AFL investigation found that they had committed serious and systematic breaches of the salary cap regulations totaling $1.37 million between 1998 and 2001

This is the first time I have ever seen reported the figure we were over the cap by from the 2002 punishment.

Why has this figure suddenly appeared in the Herald Sun? Why hasn't it been reported until now? Is that figure correct?

The AFL never disclosed the amount of our breach, a payment of $115,000 to O'Reilly was the only amount that was mentioned. I dont know where they came up with this amount from, probably made it up. The fine doesnt seem right either, i thought it was around $930,000, ( a new fine of around $874,000 plus $56,000 suspended from a previous breach). I can remember Ian Collins saying that the club didnt know how the AFL came up with the fine as the club had no idea how much the breach was. If you look up official media releases from the AFL at the time no amount was ever mentioned.

Carlton had to dramatically reduce their TPP for 2003 as actual contracts in place had us set to be about $1m over the cap. Perhaps this is where they got the figure from? At any rate, there was no suggestion we were over by that much when breached and it was official contracts that had would have had us over, not hidden payments.

Where do you find the time ODN?, good research and read.

We both work but I had 5 weeks off. When it is my wife's turn, she tends to turn the lights on, and make a show of it so me being a light sleeper, end up helping out to get it done with a minimum of fuss.

Yeah can see where you are coming from and it is a great experience having a new little bubs in the house! :thumbsu:
