I love Worps and no way would I entertain trading him, but (and it's a big butt), if he wanted to leave and LDU wanted to come to us, would posters be unhappy with the outcome?
Yes. I would.

I dont see the point.

I see them as comparable players, if anything I rate Worpel higher but I acknowledge I'm biased.

But Worpel, Day, Meek, Nash and Newc are hitting their prime right now and the synergy between them is outstanding and getting better all the time.

This can't be underestimated

I’m aware this will seem like Hawk tinted glasses, but I would prefer the engine room hard ball winning of Worpel than a LDU, who I actually think is one of the flashiest but most overrated mids in the league.. good player no doubt, but where Worpel is underrated LDU is overrated. Plays for a hopefless mob but I’ve seen him disappear a few too many times when the chips are down.

Have you seen what North have been up to lately? The chips have been down over there for years now.

These are his games over the last three years, which are the ones that he disappeared in?

LDU is a better player but Worpel is also a good player and has the benefit of being really well integrated. I'm not sure list management is ever quite as simple as replacing a player with a better player.

Agree, I was just posting a hypothetical.

Twomey wrote that we recruited Meek, Scrimshaw and D’Ambrosio in the same period. 🤪
I didn’t really read it that way mainly because he’d written earlier that we recruited him in 2017 or 18, whichever it was.

I read it as those players were the targeted players, which didn’t make sense to me as every recruited player is a targeted player

North reportedly offering LDU just over 9 million over 7 years - something that equates to 1.3 million per year.

I was very keen for us to pursue him initially, and whilst he is undoubtedly a better midfielder than Worpel, I just don't think that kind of money is worth it. Especially when Worpel would likely command somewhere in the region of 800k (?). LDU just isn't that much better.

* all goes out the window if Worpel is looking for mega bucks.

I don't think we would need to pay him as much as North. Of course if we pay less then they can theoretically match it and force a trade, but I don't think they would providing we're paying enough to get them the top tier compensation pick and their ladder finish means it's at least in the top few selections.

Good point, we might be able to entice him for less money. If we could get LDU without being forced into a trade then that would obviously be great, obscene contract permitting.

But based on those rumoured figured I'd much rather we simply just lock Worpel away.

I wonder how our capologist would juggle the figures over the next few years. I think we could offer a bumper deal to a FA or to entice a player with a trade.

I feel like they will match, even if it defies logic. Line in the sand etc

It would be idiocy. They’d be throwing away a top 3 pick.

Different equation if North get out of the bottom 6 this year
Won’t happen mate.

They’ve won 7 games in 3 seasons.

Melbourne were just outside the bottom 4 with 11 wins in 2024.

North ain’t winning 11 games.
