Cripps is perfectly fine defensively. He's 17th in the league for average tackles per game (Nash =15th, Newcombe 18th).

High tackle count doesn't necessarily equate to being good defensively, though obviously it doesn't hurt.

I think that's more indicative of Cripps being big/ strong, always being around the contest and the gameplan (contested style) that Carlton play.

But the main issue is that he can't chase opponents as he is slow and not agile, so once the ball is breaking out of the contest he's done.

I concur. Any picks we are getting in this draft will find it hard to break into the Top 23 unless it is a freak like Wiz. means they are going to be stuck in VFL for 2 yrs or so, so best option is to trade these picks for a Gun player or trade it for extra picks in 2026, like our top pick for a teens 1st rounder + F1 of North/Tiges/Eagles/Port. or do a trade like the ones Dogs did in 2023 to convert their pick 5 to 3+ 1st rounders and move them all to f1's

On same note it is surprising that Pies who are on top are debuting a player they picked in MSD, Roan Steele. Would be demotivating for many in Bottom 20.

Collingwood are 2&1/2 games clear with a reasonable easy run home.
They can afford to take a risk or 2 to see who’s AFL standard & who isn’t

They prob already know how the majority of the bottom 20 go

Theres a boy in the draft Lachie Dovaston who is a deadset clone of Wiz if we kept the pick i would love to see us draft that kid so Wiz can spend more time in midfield, If Wiz were to breakout in the midfield we wouldnt need to try & lure one of these big fish on stupid money & throw ridiculous amount of draft picks away

Example Watson's goal against him. Compared to say a Nash who would be coverying the ground closing off those options then chasing and putting pressure on. Cripps was a statue.

That one is a bit unfair on him IMO. Cripps had just ran across half the field to take up a defensive position because Watson's man was nowhere to be seen.

He was clearly cooked, and was wrong-footed by one of the most agile players in the league.

Watson is roasting 99/100 players in that position.

Which will end up being 24-28?

No thanks
You do realise we can trade that for North's F1 right? North have no 1st round picks as well.

this means we won't be bringing in any FA's as well. A firm line can be drawn thru Oscar Allen for sure.

I couldn’t really be mad at him if he took the deal (if we have somewhat lowballed him), but deep down I have a strong gut feel Worps is a smart man and won’t want to go to that tainted shithole that is Windy Hill.
He could commute from corio 🤣

I don’t want to see Worps go (especially to Essendon) but I’d take 24-28 for him for sure
Worps is a RFA so depending on what he's being offered, i'd prefer to match and find out how badly another club wants him.

Caleb Daniel went for pick 25 and he was playing VFL the year he was traded.

Taranto went for 2 teen picks.

We certainly won’t be getting full value for Worps as a FA.

If the deal is massive and you match you need to match the contract. I don’t think it’s as easy as matching just to force a trade. If EFC walk away we’re obligated to match the same contract offered by my understanding (I could be wrong). So if that will hamper attracting other targets or increasing contracts of currently listed players we might have to cop it and let him walk.

Pick 24-28 is way unders.

Guys pls, stop with this 24-28 bait.. For Band 1/Band 2, the pick will be no worse than the compo we got for Buddy.

Now that was way unders.

So pick 19-20 at best which may go to 22-25 in draft. We don't snag a flag, the pick will be even better for Band 1.

Anyway we are not going to keep the pick, will be part of trades & well worth it.

And as I said, if we take it to draft that pick can always be traded to F1 as North did when they traded theirs for Richmond pick 30 or something last yr.

If we are bringing in a Top mid, we will surely have to lose one of our younger mids. Hard to see them all stay, so quite likely we don't match a Band1 contract.

PS : went on the Dons board and there is no whiff of Worps being in their sights. Instead it is imagining their hand with Draper's compo. So not sure if this is likely
