I think he might go to the Roos. They need some speed in their midfield to replace Harvey. But I'm not sure if they'd think he's worth pick 9. If he's not taken there he'll probably be picked up by the Saints or Swans or somebody with a similarly slow midfield with their first rounder.

is an interesting one.. won't suprise if he goes pick 8 or 9 but at the same time i won't be shocked if he falls to pick 30.. i'd say at the minute he'll go about halfway.. pick 17/18/19 or so.. really want St.Kilda to get him but i just don't see him lasting to our second pick so i guess our first rounder it might have to be.. (which is hopeful pick 16:p, which i'd justify using on Blease)

Late first / early second round I think is his destination.

It should be said that Sam will be completing his year 12 studies next year and his family would prefer for him to complete his final school year in Melbourne. He would love to be drafted to Richmond the club he supports and has also said that of the interstate clubs wouldn't mind Brisbane as Michael Voss was his mentor at the AIS.

I played against Sam. He is a freak but he doesn't get alot of the ball but when he gets the ball he does something with it. Everytime my team played against him he would kick 4 or 5.

Liam Pickering said on SEN a couple of weeks ago that he should go between pick 8 - 12 and Luke Darcy said he would not be surprised if he fell into the top 10..

I like him - The queries would be skills when he's going at pace and the potential to go missing.

However, the former can be solved by him learning to bolt and then steady before kicking (should balance out, given the pace he has), and the latter might resolve itself with more match practice in the midfield and increased fitness.

If he had a big finish to the year i could have seen him pushing the top ten. To be blunt i was not greatly impressed with what i saw of him after the champs. He showed glimpes of his ability but a few times when Rangers needed him to fire the most he was missing in action.
He has obvious tallent and pace, at the moment i see him as a late first rounder or second round pick.

There has been question marks in regards to his later part of the year for the Eastern Ranges. We must not forget that he had surgery at the start of the year and had no pre season. According to Kevin Sheehan in the commentary he was rotated on and off the bench alot throughout the U/18 champs.

Probably... though if McKernan slid to pick 17 would you pick him over Blease? And possibly Heyne or Swift at 19?

I'd happily take Blease over McKernan at pick 17, but i'm not so sure the club would, so i'm hoping that McKernan is gone earlier and Blease is still available to make it an easier decision for Barry.

I'd be filthy if we took Yarran at 7.

Where did you hear about us being keen on him?

At a guess I'd say our WA recruiter's had a chat to/about him... and that's how rumours start. All that'd indicate is that he's probably in the top 10 or so that we'd expect to still be available at our first pick.

I agree ant, exactly my thoughts. I can see him falling out of the first round TBH. Personally i don't think he has really got the runs on the board, so to speak, he's more up there because of potential and hype to be taken top 10. As you said his form after the carnival has been fairly poor and even though he showed a fair bit during the carnival, it wasn't consistent enough IMO to just a top 10 pick. Because of this, i believe he's a fair chance to slide a little.

Don't get me wrong he has plenty of potential but i think a high positioning in the draft for him is fairly unlikely considering what he has shown this year. That's not to say that he won't be in the top 10 players to come out of this draft though.

I suspect he was hurting late in the season too. He was pretty ordinary in his last couple of games and then he was a late withdrawal for their final. That says to me that he wasn't playing fit.

There's a lot of upside with Blease, but I don't rate him as highly as others do. He won't end up in my Top 10. His pace is a very good weapon, but the thing that stands out to me is his cleanness below his knees.
