Darcy will get marked hard because of the hype. He’s finding form after the end of his pre-season was impacted by injury, but is still doing all the hard work. Last night:

8 CPs, 10 hit outs, 4 tackles and 14 pressure acts.

Thilthorpe last night for comparison:

8 CPs, 7 hit outs, 1 tackle, 9 pressure acts

That’s a weird group of stats to focus on

Thilthorpe also had 2 goals, 2 CM, 3 clearances , 1 free kick and 0 clangers

Darcy had 1 goal , 1 CM, 0 clearances , 4 free kicks and 6 changers

Thilthorpe is a very good player too. It’s really ok.

So let’s get this straight, is this a vibe judgement thing or an output thing?

Darcy at 205 cm, is tall yes. Thilthorpe, at 200cm isn’t?
Darcy at 2.3 Contested marks per game against Thilthorpe’s 1.7?
Darcy +11 on Frees for v against, as opposed to Thilthorpe’s +10? Wow, umpires favorite!
Darcy at 4.9 hit outs per game vs Thilthorpe’s 4.8? But Thilthorpe can ruck and Darcy can’t.
Darcy at 7.5 contested possessions per game vs Thilthorpe’s 6.8?
Darcy 2.0 goals per game vs Thilthorpe’s 1.5?

I’m not saying that Thilthorpe isn’t a tremendous weapon that I wouldn’t kill to have at my club. But if your gonna state that Darcy is overrated….. hmmm.

Darcy is going to be a gun for a long time, but it's funny how the Victorian media hype him compared to Filthy.

He was always overrated but who overrated him? The media, the same people who want to start tearing him down now.

Guy has generational potential and is tracking very well, but he is far from the best in the league right now (And that is OK!).

If every contract was voided and Tasmania could draft whoever they wanted to build their side, Darcy would easily be in the top five picked. I'd say absolute worst case scenario is he duplicates Joe Daniher's career, which isn't exactly shabby.

That said, whenever someone in the media is asked to give their top 5 or top 10 players in the game, he is invariably included ahead of the likes of King, Gunston and Cameron and I don't think he's anywhere near that level... yet.

Darcy is pretty good he's just overrated by the media.

Darcy can mark because he’s taller than most key defenders. He also gets kissed on the dick by the umpires. But when the ball drops below his knees, he can’t do shit.

Thilthorpe can ruck, can mark, and even push into the midfield. He’s also very solid below the knees.

It's because he's a really good field kick, which hasn't been seen on a player this tall. He and Thilthorpe are the prototype modern key-forwards; tall and athletic but also skilled in general play.
Someone like Ben King doesn't get involved in general play as much, and us very much a mark-kick tall forward.

When you wake up after what was obviously a massive night, you should delete this.

Why? Unlike most people I say what I think, rather than say what others want/expect to hear.
Neale is an athletic beast with a very high ceiling, he has the potential to become a very good key forward.
The media overrate Darcy because of who is father is, he would receive far less hype if he was just a talented kid in the system without any connections in the AFL industry.
For what it's worth I think Darcy has a high ceiling but he gets talked up like he's the next John Coleman or Peter Hudson.
