Haven't seen anything like him in my 35 plus years of watching footy. I am amazed by the skills of the big fella. He is so confident on his left foot and probably after Bont is the best in the side on his non preferred.

Will be very interesting to see how he goes this season. If Naughton is the 2nd ruck and we leave Darcy primary Forward. Could kick 60 plus for the season.

Paul Salmon? He was also 208fm and was arguably better at the same age. Was leading the Coleman with 63 goals in 13 matches (ahead of Lockett, Quinlan, etc) but unfortunately did his ACL -basically a 2 year injury at that point.

He came back and was an excellent player but never as dominant as it looked like he would be. Split time between ruck and forward too, with more and more rick time as his career went on.

Darcy is phenomenal, has all the attributes and is the most deserving 'could he be the GOAT' of all the current young crop imo. Hopefully avoids injury (which is always the risk for guys that big)

Has 20 contested marks leading the comp this season, the next best on 13 (Sam Taylor). Has already played the best 3-4 defenders in the comp Andrews, Weitering, Moore and Pearce. Wait until he gets few games against the bottom ranked teams, will have a field day.

On track for an All-Australian selection. I was excited about Naughton and Jamarra a few years ago but Sam is levels above both.

Massive piss take those media clowns saying Darcy is the best player in the comp.

He's not even the best key forward.

Maybe in a 2 or 3 years he will be, but he's got work to do to get there.

Hogan and King are in front of him atm for AA. Darcy will need to kick 60 to make it.

The possibility of getting him back this season seemed very remote and it might be a boost if we make the eight, but it’s also the graft and re-injury factor with ACLs that make this a big relief.
Still terrible for such a great young player to miss for so long, but could have been much worse. At worst, he's back for day 1 of pre season.

Thankfully players tend to come back pretty well from ACLs these days, but I’ve seen Darcy Snr, Murphy, Libba Jnr, Clay Smith, Bruce and others go through multiple ACLs. Would rather not see a player get started on that path!

didnt look like an ACL with how straight his leg was, there wasn't any real sideways or twisting pressure it was all just down on the joint

Hope he gets back quick and doesnt have any issues, will probably take him some time to have confidence to really leap at the ball again

ACL isn’t stressed by lateral movements and not so much twisting either. It prevents forward translation of the femur over the tibia. So basically stops the femur moving forward when the lower leg (tibia) is anchored (I.e. foot planted).
Looked more PCL with the hyperextension but ACL’s can also be done in this way albeit less common.

What a year Sam is having after missing so many weeks due to injury. Averaging 3.1 goals per game (J.Cameron 3.5 is the only higher in AFL). Also leading contested marks in the competition after all those games missed.

Just turned 22, Just how good can Sam be? Where does he rank at the same age to Buddy, Lloyd, Richo, Riewoldt.

Finally, Bevo leaving him primarily as a forward and no time in the ruck which has seen Sam more damaging overall.

Even more ridiculous - how far ahead he is in the contested marking stats:
