8 out of the 28 rising star winners have been KPP.
Happens more than people think
Even if you count Jackson (which I wouldn't, as he's around the ball almost as much as a generic mid), it's 3 in the last 17.
Still seems like pretty much a mids award to me.
KPP struggle to get nominations while mids can often get enough touchs and games to win it. As it stand Sam Dek and Gibcus have no been nominated, yet any club look at them would love to add them . Award or not they radiate rising stars

Nice way to nit pick stats to suit your argument.
Funny even if you went one more year it was a KPD who won the award.
You can’t just go off a sample size of what you want, use all the stats at your disposal.
Also same goes with not counting Jackson

Agree, the mids who come in often have the body for the game. We all know KPP take a few years.
But when there’s a gem, they defiantly have a good chance of winning it
I'm suggesting that there's a trend for mids to win more and more awards as time goes on. Hence my reasoning for showing the dearth of taller players winning in more recent years. You can say it's nit-picking. I believe it shows less prominence is being given to considering KPP's as time goes on. When you include all the stats to date for the Rising Star, there's a reasonable view that says they won more often in the early years of the award.
And I did include Jackson in my numbers.

I thought he was ok against King.
Got him once in a good contested grab then again in a tiny bit of space but otherwise curtailed him pretty well.
Could be a great match up for the next 10 years.

Both Sam and Max KIng had many chances to take more marks than they did..im not sure it was ideal for some reason. Was the ground watered to soften it?
In the end Sam would take a bit away from that. He was moved aside a couple of times but over all did OK. Not his fault the result fell the way it did.

Kings 2 goals weren’t from direct marks or as a direct opponent.
They were opportunistic goals in general play.

He’s going to be absolute all round class once his core strength gets to AFL level - has a tendency to go to ground at the moment.
His hand balling under pressure is coming along nicely as well- 13 yesterday and just about all were effective. Also means he isn’t getting tackled

Sam will also have to learn the hard way as the team begins to decline.
He is only going to gain invaluable learning experience just as Scarlett did when it was basically just him against the league's best on a week-to-week basis in the early 00's.
I think we see the natural progression when it's like this. Rance, May, Moore, Weitering, Andrews . . . . . they had to hold their own against seasoned key forwards when the team around them were in-experienced and getting belted for years at a time.

Could potentially grab the rising star nom this week, it was a pretty quiet field and his consistency might get him over the line. Main challenger would be the young bloke from Carlton who kicked a couple.
Yeah, they always seem to give it to some pipsqueak HFF for kicking a goal or two. Tall defenders don't get much of a look.
