Do you forget how many times he saves our asses because of his gut running, getting to the last line, intercepting, going third man up or moving into the midfield like the north game and getting us back in it or the leadership he brings, yeah we'll just replace him with Matt flipping Shaw

I'll be honest I almost cried but ****, when we get back to success we will have deserved it.
Starting to realise now that Docherty's a weapon, but we weren't making finals anyway so it could be worse. I remember when Byrne did his ACL last year - for me, it seemed like he was back and healthy pretty quickly. Without Gibbs or Docherty this is probably the biggest year of the rebuild.
Young players simply need to step up in 2018. Byrne, Marchbank need to improve - and I'm confident that Weitering is going to have a big year. I'm seriously shattered and it's ruined my day, but things could be worse. For now I'm looking forward to the draft and our internal improvement next year.
I'm looking forward to the development of Curnow, SPS, Fisher and hopefully Dow or Rayner. I'm looking forward to the wins we'll have, and going to the 'G on a Thursday night next year to watch the boys take on the reigning premiers. Onwards and upwards for this great club. CC

I wonder if it’s not ideal circumstances hindering training, could this happen to more players as ikon is in hibernation mode?
We need a proper training ground other than the cow paddock??

He's the best half back in the comp. He will be missed.
Good news is we have depth in that position. Simmo, Mullet, Williamson, Byrne, Shaw (potentially) and to a lesser extent Plowman can all play that role.
So not world ending but still a huge blow.

On a positive note for Sam, if you're are going to do an ACL, not a bad time to do it. Has enjoyed an offseason, has only started back and hasn't done a full preseason to di it just before rnd 1.
Going to hurt us next year but as always, will give someone else a chance to step up (Williamson, Mullett etc)

But they can't just play that role.
They can stand in the same spot as Sam, but they can't set up the play and set-up the backline the way Docherty does.
That's really cutting Docherty short, suggesting someone can just do what he does for us.

We aren't seriously cursed. Since when do tough, hard half-back flankers do their ACL at preseason training? That's an injury for beanpole ruckman and KP players.

Honestly feel gutted and slightly nauseous, however one must take a positive and pragmatic approach to this.
Of all the areas on the field we could afford to lose someone, it's the back line.
It also presents Byrne, Macreadie and Mullet with a marvellous opportunity to cement a permanent place in the back half for years.
We know how good Doc is, there is no doubt about that. Perhaps this is a blessing in disguise as it gets 22 games of footy into another kid and in the long run will actually accelerate our development as a team.
