I understand its a ***** of a thing thats happened. But without meaning to be insensitive to Doc, he is not our best player. The recruiting team's hard work over the past few years is close to alleviating his loss. His leadership will still be present. We will be a much better team in 2019 with or without Doc. Important thing is that he just focuses on his recovery. CFC will be fine.

Nuh, can't accept that given the history of Injury and reinjury this year. There is problem that needs more discussion than just bad luck

It was discussed. It was reviewed. This is emotional but god, guys need to take the emotion out of it. Russell would’ve reviewed Dochertys rehab program, he would’ve overseen dochertys pre season program. Sometimes shit just happens.

Be sad about and for doch, stop throwing toys out of the cot too

There's a difference between talk and effective discussion. Doc broke down with the precise same injury in the same knee by innocuously running around. I don't see any suggestion that there is some structural defect responsible or any other reason. How can one accept this as effective rehab and in circumstances of repeat injuries to other players.

Agree with all the above sentiments.

As to our prospects:-

We have Nic Newman, 26 next year with 31 games and 3 years in the system.

Marchbank, an injury interrupted 4 seasons in the system with 35 games should be nearing peak.

Plowman is now 24, 73 games and now fully developed.

Weitering has played 4 seasons, 56 games and should be nearing peak.

MacCreadie and Willo, 3rd season, 8 and 15 games, should be ready to show what they will be able to do at peak, though still a mountain to learn.

SOJ might find a niche down back with 3 seasons and 43 games behind him.

Mitch McGovern can play down back if needs be.

We have LOB with 1 year in the system, 18 games, a more developed body, who should improve.

We have Angus Schumacher with 1 year in the system, a much developed body by the look of preseason reports, who could give us something.

That is 10 potential improvements in our defence from last year with only the loss of Rowe, Byrne and the unmemorable O'Shea, Shaw and Mullett.
[Simpson, Jones and Daisy will not play any better than last year, and although there is no reason to think they will deteriorate, they might].

Our defence should be more resilient next year with the increased back up. Perhaps even more importantly our midfield should be much stronger than last season and this, even more than the natural development of the defence, should reduce the pressure down back.

Finally, Sam was greatly missed last year for the leadership he demonstrated in 2017. We have played a year without him. Necessarily the defenders have learnt (after a fashion) how to play without his leadership. For this reason alone he won't be so badly missed, at least as far as our on-field fortunes are concerned.

I know how we felt when Scharenberg went down again, its the awful sick gut wrenching feeling that just gnaws away. Terrible luck, terrible shitful awful luck. Every thought and hope for Doc, and for the CFC, hope his recovery is as quick and complete as medicine can provide.

Seeing as this is the 2nd time it has happened innocuously - does anyone know if that has any bearing on what surgery he might have (lars/traditional)?

You literally have no idea how he did it!!

Maybe it was a marking contest and he landed badly. Maybe an awkward tackle.

We don't know.

Don't just make things up to help your narrative.

Okay, so I know it’s only Facebook but someone mentioned seeing a video on Instagram of Docherty jumping on a trampoline over the weekend and that he may have landed awkwardly while doing so.

Not sure what to think...logic says it’s probably bs - any chance Instagram gurus could find such footage?

Brad Lloyd confirmed Doc was innocuously running around on 3AW 6.50pm

still in shock - was saying to a mate at work today how good it is to go into xmas / new year with no injuries.
Ah. Now we know whose fault it is. Jerk.

Edit: FFS scroll down a few posts and someone has already done the gag. Save your low hanging fruit for when I'm browsing, people! Is that too much to ask?!

If it was injured in much the same way as the first time, then why does the blame for the second occurrence land on the medical/high performance team? If you stick your hand on a hot stove twice, you don't blame the stove for the second time.
