Apparently this footage was on his girlfriends Instagram story but is no longer up...

Yes, his girlfriend posted a video/story on Instagram on the weekend showing Sam jumping up and down on someone’s trampoline and falling and laughing it off. I remember at the time when I saw it thinking oh Sam, should you be mucking around doing this...

Deeply, deeply saddened. What a massive kick in the guts after being named one of our captains and doing a shit ton of work off-field for not only his development but also the group's development. Doc seems very level headed though, handy for such an ordeal. Feeling empty and very flat, cant imagine the emotions he's experienced today. Time for Willo, Newman and Schumacher to step up. A silver lining in one of these guys developing into a smashing player in all this would stem the pain a bit, because frankly this ****ing sucks.

All the best, capitano.

Love Doc … really do …. shitty place to be but pissing into the wind wont change it ….. He will value add to this club in other ways this year, unfortunately it just wont be in Number 15 :(

If this is true this is the dumbest thing I’ve heard. Seriously. I’m no expert but a trampoline is probably not the best thing to try strengthen an ACL..... every time you jump on a trampoline you feel like your ACL could pop at any second. I would like to think he’s smarter than that. Yet we forget these blokes are 25 years old. Anyway we press on we have no choice.

Agree with the notion that we can’t just be reliant on one player.

But I also think some are underselling how influential Docherty is. The difference in organisation between our back six this year and in 2017 when we had Docherty playing was enormous. Obviously we had some injury issues this year but Docherty covered a lot of ground, took a lot of marks and his disposal out of defence is elite. This guy is a general back there. Much like a Luke Hodge.

If we were a team in the 8 then I wouldn’t be as concerned. But this team just came off 2 wins. Unless some young defenders take a huge leap next year I don’t see how Docherty being out won’t hurt us greatly.

I fear this could be more short term pain.

I’ve seen Menzel and Nic Nat doing recovery on a tramp.

I probably wouldn't call 25 years short-term.......

Gutted for Doc and the club, such a kick in the guts. I have real concerns for Sams ability to get back to anywhere near the player he was. The stats for re injuring an ACL after doing one are high, I’d hate to see what it’s like after two.

It’s for this reason I’m glad we didn’t consider Max King and it’s a shame players like Lever, Patton, Menzel, Johnson, Morabito, Lbratore, Nic Nat and now Doc have had to suffer from multiple ACLs.

I really hope Sam can do a Gawn and come back with confidence.

It will be interesting to see the clubs plan on covering this loss. Hopefully we can pick up a mature agent overlooked in the draft.

Could Mitch Grigg play half back?

Okay, so I know it’s only Facebook but someone mentioned seeing a video on Instagram of Docherty jumping on a trampoline over the weekend and that he may have landed awkwardly while doing so.

Not sure what to think...logic says it’s probably bs - any chance Instagram gurus could find such footage?

I saw this on insta as well - he definitely landed awkwardly, stopped jumping & sat down.

It was on an “insta story” so it only lasts 24 hours, hence why it’s not there now

I can't get over this news. Like my mood for 2019 is already set and nothing will change it.
The wind just got blown completely out of my sail. To be honest, I don’t care for football right now. Just when we needed a bit of injury luck to go our way. Proverbial black cat.

Yep.

Can't recall being this upset by something footy related before.

Gutted.

Can't imagine what Docs feeling right now. Someone go give the man a hug.

At risk of posting a blinding flash of the obvious - a lot will depend on the health/fitness of the rest of our list, in terms of the impact Sam's on-field absence will have. Even this year, we would have coped a hell of a lot better if we had a stable back 6-8 throughout the season. How many of our players ended up playing through the backline at some point or other this year?

If the rest of the list remains healthy, I think we can share a lot of the loss - especially if Doc is allowed to sit on the bench again. Not the whole loss - Doc is irreplaceable. But a lot of the playing burden. I think we are better placed this year.

I’m just all over the place since hearing about this.

I mean, I know injuries happen, it’s terrible luck, life can be cruel but, I don’t know if I wanna ball my eyes out, or go around punching walls or burn down The Hanger or just check myself into a clinic.

This has just devastated me. After seeing Doc’s interview from a week ago, for this to happen to him, the Universe can seriously gagf.

How do we cope when using the Carlton App now? Seeing him next to Crippa and knowing he’s not gonna play... Not taking this well at all.
