All these hours after the news came out I am still struggling to get my head around it. Missing 2 whole seasons in a row. It really deflates you after all the positives which have come about post season prior to today.

I just hope that we can see enough improvement from our 3rd & 4th year players to ensure that the loss of such a fantastic player can be balanced out somewhat.

I got a text from a cricket mate who knows Brad Lloyd well saying he'd done his knee and I be like..

View attachment 594118

He mentioned something about a trampoline. Him being a 'trickster' I called bullshit..

View attachment 594120

Then I jumped on BF and posters were starting to report it. I had to take this in..

View attachment 594127

Then it was confirmed. The usual flogs jumped on and blamed everyone from the medicos to SOS's trade..

View attachment 594122

My walk home was a sombre one..

View attachment 594125

I got home and needed to lay down..

View attachment 594126

But Mrs KohPhi, who absolutely LOVES Doc needed me, and I had to be strong..

View attachment 594121

Then I started thinking..

View attachment 594124

Does this open up an opportunity for, dare I say it, Brendon Goddard?? I quickly pushed such thoughts from my head..

View attachment 594123

I then turned my thoughts to Walsh, Stocker, Curnow, The Guv, Samo, Fish, Crippa, LOB, Paddy 'Sham Wow' Dow, Harry, Willo, Macreadie, Weitbot, Setterfield, TDK etc and realized whilst shit, all will be ok..

this stuff makes twin peaks look like arcade...........there's a reason he wears his poty medallion everywhere - it's called justifiable pride...

I’ve seen Menzel and Nic Nat doing recovery on a tramp.
Exactly, and as well as that, mogul skiiers at the Winter Games use trampolines to simulate those large mounds they bounce off of in training.
Even skiiers without ACLs competed so... Trampolines can't be that bad, can they?

Yes injuries hurt our backline as a whole but you and some others on here seem to be underrating Docherty’s value.

He’s easily our most versatile player. He can play small and tall. One of our best kicks and easily one of our best leaders.

We had some shaky backlines in previous seasons, and Docherty was always there to save the day alone with Simpson.

He is a giant loss. Particularly to a young team with a developing backline. It’s a bit of a worry that Jones is now still one of the only experienced players down back.
If your inferring my posts as an indication that i personally underrate Doc as a player, then its probably because I have been overly deliberate in tempering my disappointment, with a need to move forward, Thats just my way of handling shit situations. No insensitivity was intended.

i value Doc as player, and have no doubt that he would have made us a better side in 2019. But in saying that, I don't believe his loss make's us worse than we were in 2018; given that he wasn't there. Furthermore, i really believe that we are far better equipped to cover his loss this time around. We have recruited well over the last few seasons, and I think we will see the benefits of that in 2019.

I am more concerned about the effect of the injury on Doc himself, than I am about its structural effect on the team.

He mentioned something about a trampoline.

Great post! The laughs just kept going and going :)

If there is something in it and your mate’s mail about the trampoline was from Lloyd, Doc can’t be blamed. We can blame him for sharing the trampoline with her in a vertical fashion though. It would’ve been a much lower risk activity horizontally.

I hope the club learns and words up the player group to stay careful in their free time. Perhaps they should use it as an excuse to widen the prohibited activities clause in player contracts. Stick some catch all phrase at the end of the standard list of prohibited activities (football, skiing, ice skating, rugby, volleyball, horse riding,.....):

“and anything that has a risk of damaging your rig because we’ve put so much *** money into it, except of course horizontal trampoline sharing, which is strictly encouraged”.

Doc’ll do it the right way next time. Poor b*gger.

I find it hard to believe with all the twisting, turning, jarring, big bodies being thrown at you, getting thrown to the ground etc that the catalyst for his acl injury was jumping up and down on elastic.

Adelaide supporters must be rubbing their hands together right now. Geez I hope this Stocker kid works out. I know you cant predict these things but this really does damage our 2019 prospects lets not mince words. Nic Newman has a pretty big role to step into now and we need Williamson to come back in strong.

Thought having a good night sleep would make things better next morning. Bugger just the word Doc is gut wrenching at this minute. I am sure the club will give the guy few months off to get his head together - travel and enjoy yourself Doc. Setbacks happen in life and you're still young - 2018 can not end soon enough

This club just cannot get a god damn piece of good luck with injuries!

It’s just shattering.

Was really looking forward to seeing Doc back.

I’m so upset for him and just so angry.

Angry at how cruel life can be .... my beloved blues just seem bloody cursed!

And at the same time I have to see * on top of the hype ladder!

Found out yesterday at a friends dinner party just before dinner .... ruined the evening for me and I am yet to recover ... just not fair on soooooo many levels!

Nah Brad Lloyd didn't mention the trampoline, that was later on in posts on BF. Lloyd did tell my mate the players and staff were feeling really flat though.

No it doesn't ruin ANY future prospects! With all due respect, who gives a **** what prospective player we might have received in the 1st round of the 2019 draft? We have had 4 ****ing years of picking up top talent. When does it end??? This was a bold move by SOS and the gang. It was a sign to us supporters, the club and the wider AFL community that we aren't playing in 2019 for any draft picks. We are playing to win- we are moving on from our rebuild. So whether we finish last or 1st next year, who cares what pick we get from the crows??? I'm not interested in picking up any more elite number 1 picks. We have them in spades. Get the kids we have right and ready to go for 2019 and beyond.

In regards to Doc, i'm still bloody shattered for him, the club and us supporters. We really didn't need something like this, but we've recruited to cover for him so I don't see it being the huge issue most will make it out to be. It is shocking for Doc more so than our performances on field... We will be fine because we HAVE to be fine and move on from this.

I'm so bloody flat. This will either deflate the group or really pull them together even more.

I see 2 scenarios unfolding in the long term.

Worst case, we never see Doc back to his best, or at all.

Best case, the team develops over the next 2 years into a geniune contender and Doc gets back to his 2017 best and becomes the absolute cherry on a delicious cake.

Mitch McGovs opportunity to be mainly a forward probably just took a bit of a hit.

Whatever we decide to do with Gov no doubt we will train him out of position for most of the preseason then keep him on his toes but swinging him forward and back mid game.

Its the Carlton way, we sure showed that school captain number 1 pick Wietering smartass that this game isn't easy
