The thing is
He always attended a few center clearances and struggled early

I genuinely think he was just building a tank to get to more clearances

That and he has learnt exactly how much pressure is on him
Early on i think he was acting like there was more pressure on than reality

She is part of the Cheer Squad and goes to banner making. Sammy's parents have 3 sons at Port (Tommy Gray played with the Maggies again today) so no surprise she is a Port fan.

I never knew that. Thanks, Powerstuff :)

Yeah, the one thing you can't knock Moore for is not doing the team things. Unfortunately 'the team things' are pretty much the only thing he does.

Moore is gawn, trade or delist. Young's 2016 contract will probably save him, although his 13 disposal 0 goal game today won't do him any favours.
Once that stupid Sub rule is finished at the end of the season(maybe?) I think Moore and young will come into their own by getting more game time. Not sitting on the pine for three quarters or being worried that you will be dragged.

Tremendous form the last few weeks. Like most here, I didn't see it coming.

Just doesn't accept not being involved. Doesn't accept waiting for Boak, Robbie, Wines etc. to feed him the ball. He clearly craves responsibility and isn't fazed of having the footy in his hands. I am no Young or Moore hater, but they fade into obscurity far too easily when others aren't performing.

I can see him developing into a Sam Gibson link up type.

How are the tyres Powerstufff?
Hah! Yes and Sammy's dad Glen has set up his tyre fitting/mechanical repair business in Royal Park, Sammy's mother Leanne told us the details at banner-making last year.
Glen has done the tyres for my eldest son's Frontera and also some mechanical repairs. You can have a good chat about footy there but both parents are annoyingly discreet about anything not made public knowledge by the club.

Edit - and late credit to crazee_peet who reminded me of the Gray's tyre fitting business when we were at a Maggies game a little while back, and gave me the contact info. :thumbsu:

So how do you think that works? Getting rid of the sub rule won't mean 21 players on the ground. Or 22, I don't know how it affects numbers on that week's team list.

And BTW I reckon both Moore and Young are tradeable and will be shopped around, they won't be the only ones either. The value of putting a good selection on show with the Power.

Sam Gray emerges as a go-to guy for a resurgent Port Adelaide
KEN Hinkley believes Port Adelaide has answered its gap-year funk, with Sam Gray the poster boy for a triumph of club culture.

Everywhere man Robbie Gray has been Hinkley’s other talisman this season but for Port to take the next step, genuine midfield reinforcement was non-negotiable.
Sam Gray has come from clouds to post four consecutive 20-plus possession performances -against St Kilda, Western Bulldogs, Greater Western Sydney and Hawthorn — gaining currency every game.
Port is finally benefiting from bestowing 176cm onballer Gray the licence to impress in a grunt engine-room role that he was once considered too diminutive to hold.

Sam Gray gets a kick away for Port, ahead of Hawthorn Cyril Rioli

What struck me about his game on Friday was how many blocks and shepherds he laid that turned into an attacking play for us.

Yep! Matty Whites goal was fantastic but the best thing about it was Sam Grays run to shepherd the player coming for White

I for one thought he was too short and too slow to make it...

I should have remembered Greg Williams...2 old 2 slow 2 short...2 Brownlows.

Congrats to Sam Gray. Happy to be proved wrong he has really looked the goods over the last four weeks. Has overtaken Moore and possibly Young IMO.

Interesting note ...
Brent Harvey 172cm
Sam Gray 176cm
Harvey goes ok lol

The difference between Gray and guys like Moore/Young is that Sam is prepared to do the unrewarded running and team things to facilitate his teammates clearing the ball easier instead of gravitating toward it hoping for a cheap stat. I didn't notice one time during the whole game when I thought he was asking for the ball in a poor position but rather made sure he was in a good one so that when he received the ball he did something good with it. And that fed into the confidence of his teammates in him to do the right thing.

And when he starts getting attention, he'll willingly sacrifice his game and still do that unrewarded running so the guys that are freed up (Ebert, Hartlett etc) have the space and time to operate and make good decisions. He doesn't need to be the flag on top of the mast all the time.

That's a team player. A Port Adelaide player.
Maybe it isn't that those boys don't want to do it but don't know how to do it as well as Sam.

I don't know where it came from but he appears a lot faster in the middle than at half forward for whatever reason.

This times a million.

He went from Jeremy Clayton to Lachie Neale overnight.

That's actually a really good comparison for the way he's played the last few weeks. He's nothing like Brent Harvey who everyone is comparing him to for some reason, but there's a lot of Lachie Neale about him, maybe even with a little more line-breaking run on the outside. If he can develop into half the player that Neale is, that's a big win for us for pick 29 in the rookie draft. Especially considering that he looked gone for all money 5 weeks ago.

I will say it again...

This guy is capable of kicking 30 goals in a season from the midfield....

He gets burnt by his team mates a lot in our fwd 50....

Was just thinking about Sam's outside run! It's really given us something we've lacked since round 5. Coupled with White's return to fitness and we've finally found a working solution to Polec's absence (although Sam's recent form has been top line rather than 2nd tier). Shame it's come so late but at least we've largely solved a major depth issue. Now for the other KEY depth issue...

If we get two more solid games from gray and ah chee to end the season it sets us up really well for next year, we currently have about a best 18 and the last four spots have been a merry-go-round, need a solid 22 with half a dozen stars in the right parts of the ground to be premiership contenders. Never thought same gray was capable of a 34 disposal, 1 goal game against hawthorn, ever. good on him, I would love to see him succeed.
