Looks like a young Ben Johnson. May need to do an apprenticeship as a back pocket player like Johnno did, so holding Milne to two is a good start. Showed enough on saturday to persevere with him... his problem will be the line of guys waiting to pinch his rebounding midfielder spot- Stanley, R Shaw, Lonie, Holland, Cook, Davies.

Depth is a biatch.

Good decision making and delivery.

I thought his decision making was terrible. He takes a long time to make a decision and looks very unsure of himself, making a few pretty obvious blunders.

Delivery and handling was pretty good though, so it might just be a matter of getting more experience.

In the game against the saints he made good decisions getting the ball out of defence and into our forwards, he at times took to long to make those desisions and made a couple of turnovers. I still think he is ok but he will be one of the first players out when our other players get fit.

He is another player in the midfield rotation, we have an abundance of them these days... has a good head on his shoulders and can kick, will get better with more experience.

i was proved v wrong by him!!
i was def one who believed he was useless but he impressed me on the weekend...was not the same player as last year and he seems to have put on a bit of beef, v good game and lets hope he continues to improve

Was nervous early, held onto the ball too long and turned it over too much.........but as the game progressed he caught up to the pace, was a good link man out of defence and used the ball well

Would give him until Racer returns to prove himself

In a team of youngsters whom are one touch, such as Pendlebury, Cox, Thomas, Shaw etc, Iles is a fumbler. I haven't rated him and still don't. He isn't better than average in any category you want to mention. Has no place in our best 22, but is probably a decent reserve as he is definately a trier which gets some respect. Won't ever be better than an average AFL player which would be fine for the Pies if it were the late 90's. But we have players with much more potential, Ryan Cook to mention one whom is probably a bit similar, but will also struggle to maintain a spot long term in the side.

He's definitely getting better and just needs to play more at AFL level rather then playing a few games then getting dropped. Might not happen this year but another big pre season and i would love to see him given a big crack at it because he looks to be alright.

I agree I thought Sam played a great game has poise, good disposal and decision making hope he can hold his spot. I have always been a big fan of his.

Got better as the game went on, check out his last quarter on Sat, did some really good things when the heat was on
