Do you get he is pretty much no value to us when he's sooking for a move?
What are you talking about? He has 2 years on a contract. We have all the leverage. If a club doesn't cough up, we keep him. It's not that hard to understand surely?

The thing is, he hasn't actually done it much in his career. He's always been exciting promise, and now it's three years later.

I'd rather keep him, because I don't think the market will offer us what we need him to be worth.
He has had injury interrupted seaosns, and alot of those were collision injuries.
He has also been playing in a forward line with Tex, JJ, Lynch, Betts, Douglas etc, so he has played second fiddle in alot of those. When Tex hasnt played he has been excellent.

Seeing as though this is now the McGovern trade thread instead of the Pelican McLure thread, if Gov leaves it's going to be the Gunston situation all over again. Will be like watching a movie on repeat, you can be sure of it.

Gunston didn't have a two year contract with the club still to run.
Far more like Ryan O'Keefe with Sydney trying to get to Hawks, Coll and Carlton and we know how that turned out.

So your saying he definitely wants out right?

Can you provide some context around why he signed a 2 year extension end of 2017 and why he now wants out.
Why is he now sooking and where does he want to go?

3 year extension

Still has 2 years remaining. 2019 and 2020.

leverage? he will be a liabiity if we keep him next season.
i get we overate afc player on here, but i personally i dont rate gov, and id be shocked if he is a crows player next season.

Nah, there's practically no examples of a contracted player looking elsewhere and then "not trying" when a trade cant be made. Whether you rate him or not, the competition rates him and his contract status means we hold the whip hand if another club wants him. I Agree he's yet to really deliver on his potential, but how many blokes have we got who can clunk a mark and nail a play at critical moments? How many are there in the competition?

My view on Gov is that he needs less competition up forward. I'd be playing everyone else high and giving Gov the 30 metre arc. Change it up sometimes and give him a run on the ball. His hands, pace and attack on the ball could be an asset given a few minutes a game in the midfield.

If I recall Gibbs had a great year in 2017 after our failed bid to land him in 2016. Players are professional. It’s his manager I don’t trust, probably go the mental health route like he did with Mcarthy....

I mean Tippo still played a number of good games for us and he never really wanted to be here.

Wouldn't think the prospect of sitting out of football for 2 years at the age of 24 would be that appealing to him.

Fair enough.
Will interesting to see where he ends up tho.

I don’t mind the idea of trading McGovern. We’re already one tall ‘heavy’ up forward with Lynch, Tex, JJ and Gov. Plus we have Fogarty coming up next year.

A liability how?

Like O'Keefe was a liability at the Swans...

Pyke is a huge fan of Gov & clearly rates him as best 22.. & Gov has a great relationship with Pyke.

You are jumping to stupid conclusions on the back of made up speculation from a crap journalist.

Footy people are quick to jump off players.
Heres some Gov footage. Remember just how good he is.

Tell me which player in the top 5 is guarenteed to produce these traits at AFL level when drafted?
Do people know how hard it is to find a player with the marking ability he has? To find big forward with x factor?

Plenty of games where he does a fraction of that too.
