Sam Mitchell - 300 Games

Enright, Burgoyne, Mitchell all 300 in the same season. Probably my three favourite non-Crows players.

Mitchell always steps up and gets it done in the biggest games against the strongest midfields.

Gun player to state the obvious, but the kneeings are disgusting, I'm not talking about just Fyfe, blokes done it more than once.

Gives as good as he gets.

And Fyfe has smashed our players front on in a marking contest more than once and no one gives a crap, specifically I recall him punching Duryea and bumping Lewis head high while not looking at the ball. You know why no one cares? Your guys lose, and Mitchell wins. Meanwhile 'Tex' (who was also trying to smash him and came off the worse for it) goes for a moan on twitter.

You mean trying to spoil the ball in a contest? Bit different to kneeing blokes off the ball I would of thought. Like I said amazingly good player, but a dirty sniper who gets away with everything.
That's not why, it's because he knees people, not that hard to understand really, actually commonsense.

Agree with the sentiment, but I don't think he gives anywhere near as good as he gets.
Mitchell gets seriously decked after about 50% of his disposals. Honestly amazed he gets up half the time. Like that one in the opening minutes of the North game a few weeks ago.
You cant compare a few (admittedly poor) wayward knees to 300 games worth of getting slammed.
One tough little unit. Amazing decision maker with sublime skills.
Well done Sam, you champion.

Amazingly durable player and fantastic at the game.

Still a character, the jab jab signal to bombers, the recent one on gary ablett's free kick shows he is comfortable in his views on things.

Will win a brownlow or 2 by the year's end!!!

Well done!

Actually gives far far less than he gets. The carry on over a few small incidents is ridiculous. Incidents where it shouldn't be forgotten that bigger blokes were looking to pick him off, as he's been copping all career.

One of the smartest players of all time with impeccable skills and disposal.

I probably rank him slightly below the likes of Judd, Ablett, Goodes and now Dangerfield as he's never struck me as a player who can blow a game open. His consistency and nose for the footy is remarkable but I've never thought "shit, here comes Sam".

Calling him an accumulator would be disrespectful but I view him the way other teams probably see someone like Hannebery. Will get his 30+ but will he really hurt you?

Other teams? You mean by being the first tagged ever single game for the last 13 years? If you want to know if Mitchell can rip a game apart ask Longmire and all the Swan mids that still have nightmares of Mitchell.

Eh, this is a fair reply.

I'm just speaking from my experience as a fan watching the games.

I don't mean to be disrespectful. He's a modern day legend.

He'll never have 4 bounces down the wing & kick a goal from 50 or breakaway from a pack at speed & snap a goal.

What he does do (regularly) is win the ball & give it off to players in our side that can execute the above (usually under pressure).

Part of the reason why hawthorn is a champion TEAM.

Like Diesel did with Carlton, he is the cog that starts & sets up the play.

22 players destroyed us. I have no ill feeing towards 20 of them.

My ill feelings towards Hodge and Mitchell were there before the GF. They are a result of their penchant for cowardly on-field acts.
What about the cowardly acts that Mitchell cops week in week out. That's just part of the game ;)? I wish he gave as good as he got. He would have laid a few more WCE / AFL players to waste because most of them are not nearly as tough as Sam

Can't really add more to the conversation that hasn't already been said.

The most consistently great player in the competition over the last decade. I see him the type of player that Hawthorn supporters will continue to talk about for decades as a champion, but over time other team supporters will probably 'forget' him and remember the Judd/Ablett types that were amazing but over a much shorter period. (e.g. Peter Knights).

Hopefully he gets the brownlow that he deserves (and maybe another?)

Thats fair. If you look at the stats he plays "worse" against Sydney than any other team which colours my perception.

I'm far more likely to be sweating on Gunston, Gibson, Roughead or Burgoyne.

Yes like in the 2014 GF where he had 33 touches and 9 tackles.. Or last Thursday night where he had 37 touches and towelled up the Swans..

Are you blokes really melting because I said I rank him just below 3 all time greats?

Like I said, look at the stats over his career. Yes he's had a few good games but the Swans have kept him relatively quiet.

Jesus christ piss off back to the hawks board if all you want is a non-stop wank.
