I actually agree with the club here, if its really family reasons for his departure, then hold him to contract and have him work for us out of Melbourne for the next 2 years.

Terminating our contract and walking straight into a plum job at Hawthorn doesn't sit well.

Reading between the lines during AFL360, his mother in law had dementia and passed away last year. Not sure of his wife’s father but suggest his wife may be needing to be more of a family support for him and struggling to do so from Perth.

Having been an expat - year 2 is always the hardest for partners. Add to that a parent back home in need - simple decision really. Not sure how many siblings his wife had do another consideration.

He made a legitimate attempt to be an Eagle and cannot understand why people are wanting all the details.

Most important that we now go and replace Sam with an extremely good coach. Swallow some price and make a monster offer to Sumich as senior assistant. Our net profit is north of $10mln so make him an offer he can’t refuse.

Sumich won't come as an assistant - that offer has already been attempted without success as think Sumich only wants the top job - the only way that will happen is if Simmo decides to leave. OR Sumich has a change of mind which is more unlikely than likely!

That would shit me off if true. Obviously a plan for us to help the Hawks list managers free up cap space for Mitchell/O’Meara, plus get a little bit of work experience before coming back to a guaranteed job.

Still, we agreed to it. Even if the plan was to just trade pick 80 something for Mitchell the player for one year, we would have still said yes.

Carlton got rid of him - they have an inverse appreciation of talent, so he must be pretty good. No player ever has a bad word to say about him as far as I can tell, would be happy if he wanted to come to us.

He was always going back to Hawthorn eventually but I genuinely believe at the time he signed the contract he was planning on seeing it out and lining it up with the end of Clarksons tenure. As it is now he’ll probably end up alongside Clarko until he’s done but I don’t think that was the original plan.

He's breaking the contract so I'd say we're we're fine.

Personally I think he's been given a little too much credit for our year, I'm sure he's had an influence, but he is only one assistant coach. I do worry he said the other night that he first let Simmo know during the bye, and then spoke to the players down in Tassie. Coincides with our worst two most lacklustre perfomances of the year (Essendon and North). Hopefully just a coincidence.

Think the most disappointing loss is going to be that hard, almost unsociable, edge he gave us that we seemed to be lacking up until he came along. We’re still a bit soft at times but the signs are definitely there that it’s changing. Hopefully Simmo can continue it.
