mmmmmm, despite averaging 7.4 less possessions (26.6 to 19.2), Harris averages more contested possession (4.2 to 2.8) more 1%ers (5.2 to 4.5) and more tackles (6.0 to 5.0).

Fatarse Mitchell is ahead ATM, but he just throws it onto his boot to often for mine and as Jerry Wexler said Harris will end up the more damaging player.

Plus Harris looks like a much, much better bloke.

Sammy has a head you'd like to kick (and really small, sensitive nuts apparently)

Contested possessions are overrated. All it shows is that someone can't successfully avoid a tackle or clear through traffice to dispose of the ball uncontestedly. Look at Mitchell, he often picks the ball up from a contested situation but through his evasiveness is able to break free and dispose of the ball in an uncontested situation, meaning it is an uncontested disposal.

It is not contested disposal, it is contested possession. Meaning the ball is in a contested situation and you go get it. If, as you said Mitchell picked up the ball from a contested situation and then broke free, it would be counted as a contested possession.

Judd, Harris and Kerr are the top three in the league for average contested possesion.

In that order.

The BF ratings may be in favour of Mitchell, but that comment is truly either sad, or almost an admission.
No, it's true.

These days players are evasive enough to avoid getting into contested disposal situations...hence the better disposal efficiency and the declining level of contested disposal.

While Mitchell is relativelty slow - he is getting better, his evasive skills are first class ditto Hodge - that's why these two getting very little contested ball.

And Judd?

Does he need to improve his evasiveness too?
Get it up to the level of Mitchell and Hodge so he can drop his contested possession numbers?

I always thought contested possessions were winning the ball in a contested situation, and had nothing to do with you disposed of it - other than the disposal being legal.
I'd say Mitchell is probably ahead, but not by as much as many think. For in and under type work - particularly at ball ups - I'd take Harris, for the other stuff around the ground Mitchell.

people are pumping mitchell up too much. he isnt that good a player.
better then harris tho.

1) You can't have a reasonable discussion about two players without calling one 'Fatarse'?

2) You've never met Mitchell, but you're willing to judge Harris as the better bloke? (Sorry, what does that have to do as to who is the better player)

Keep up the good work Zebra, as Galon said, you always provide humour wherever you go. :thumbsu:

Do you know what I don't understand?

How ANYONE can say Harris.

Harris is a great player but Mitchell is a champion.

Everyone bar 3 who voted Harris are North supporters which is moronic. If someone asked me who's better Chance Bateman or Shannon Grant I would say Grant.

North supporters cling to the finest of threads these days. Gotta love their loyalty though.

Hard to split, would love either.

You voted for Harris, so you should get a job at Essendon recruiting, or the old Freo Dockers.

Your an idiot or a troll.

It's like saying Damian Peverill is better than Ben Cousins.

Lukey, I voted for Harris because I knew he`d get smashed in the poll. I stand by what I said, I`d love either.

I didn't vote but I do think Mitchell is the better of the two! The only time I have agreed with any the Dawks have actually brought up!

But I do love having Harris in our side he is a very talented player!

:

It is a term of affection, like:

Big Bad Bustling Barry Hall or
Lethal Leigh Matthews.

Fatarse Sammy Mitchell

Rolls off the tounge.
