What a sad day, it is really starting to sink in that we're gonna lose him.
Probably the second best player we've ever had, would be our greatest if the best player of all time wasn't a Hawk.
Hard to accept but trusting the club and wishing the bloke all the best and thanks for all the pleasure he's given to us supporters.

I thought the Croad trade sucked this is like a thousand daggers going in my heart.Screw the future don't break the hearts of hawthorn supporters... Premierships will come again in due time... You can't win em all but to rip away the heart of this club is criminal... Christ what a day:(

Cheer up. All is not that bad cos the Bombers appeal got rejected. And if Sammy is genuinely happy then I am happy.

Maybe this situation is more about the Hawks looking after Mitchell and what's best for him rather than trying to get a 'win' at the trade table.

And maybe, just maybe, it's all about long term planning...
I'm glad our administration is pragmatic personally. They need to provide a clear message for our more emotive supporters though

Sick, yes.
End of the universe, no hope for Hawthorn going forward, our leadership utter dullards and conniving in some way to destroy all Hawthorn supporter hope - NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Different people deal with things in different ways..
Next time a fellow hawk is having a 'melt' about something upsetting just let it through to the keeper...let them vent

Mitchell is contracted for next year. If he didn't want to go he wouldn't be. Let that sink in for a bit.

He's given us more than we could ever deserve. I know it hurts but let's think about giving back to Sam. He wants to move to WA to do his apprentiship. He wants to experience life outside of Hawthorn. Let's let him have it before he needs to take kids out of school to do it.

He will be back in 4-5 years as our senior coach. That you can take to the bank.

History will say
Sam Mitchell : 300 game Hawthorn premiership captain, 4 time premiership player, 5 time PCM, Multiple AA, Brownlow Medalist.
Multiple premiership coach at Hawthorn, Multiple coach of the year.

Look at it like the first step of life after Clarko with the only person I am 100% comfortable in taking over.

Thanks Sam. You'll forever be Brown & Gold in my eyes.

Exactly......

Short term it might hurt, but longer term and s a coup.
Dos his apprenticeship at another club and comes back to us in 4 or 5 years.
I can smell a succession plan that n the winds

If it means we O'meara and a pick before 30, this will be ok. Kudos to West Coast though, they know how to go after the right people and think outside the box. Learnt from their mistakes without whinging and whining.

Still don't like the idea of losing Mitchell, he lacks value due to age on the market but at the same time he is invaluable to us. Consistently our best player and gives his all in every game. Setting him play for another team just send wrong. I'm not going to get all emotional, football is a business and Mitchell spoke really well this morning about the situation but from a fans perspective, to lose one of our greatest ever players who just came off a B&F win and doesn't show any signs of dropping off is massively disappointing.

Let's not get over dramatic as much as it pains us he had one year at best left in him.
As long as it's what he wanted and he's happy with it then I'm just excited we got the other Mitchell

I think people overrate Mitchell's importance to our team. At any rate he would only have been important for another year or two.

Great post, so true... I mean if he came last in the B&F voting you wouldn't mind so much...

The more I have thought about this the more it appears to make sense, who else could we trade? The only other likely candidate could be Burgoyne.

By trading Mitchell he gets to play on and we get the cap space, the other candidates Hodge, Lewis and Gibson are all seemingly cooked and if we asked them to move on it would be a straight retirement.

Lacks obvious Value in a trade situation due to age, but could still very well win a brownlow next year and be an all australian again with the eagles. Cant let him go for loose change . Would entertain Mitchell plus Hill compo for eagles first pick.
