This news shocked me at first with Sammy being my favorite player grow up, it will be hard to see him in different colors (if everything falls through).
But that's football, a business you cant get to emotional over. As they say; The Club is always bigger then the individual.
I'm sure once the dust has settled we will all be excited at the prospect of our new team clarko has put together even if it is missing the little champ :(

Absolutely crushed.
What the f*** is wrong with Clarkson?
I never thought we could look as heartless as North Melbourne and yet here we are.
I don't care if he has a "plan". He is letting go one of the best players in the clubs history and what for?
So we can get some player with a bung knee who hasn't played in two years.
I hope O'meara is worth the heartbreak caused.

I hate to see Mitch go, but fair call this. When we think of Derm do we visualise him in either a Swans or Pies jumper?
Good point. If we keep repeating the same mistakes, then maybe we'll be conditioned to it as the norm. Well, maybe our kids, as they'll be growing up in this environment.

It would have to be a very sweet deal - first rounder and a quality player. TO be fair, Mitch has achieved all there is to achieve at Hawthorn, especially when Jobe gives him his brownlow in a few weeks, and he's thinking of the future, I suppose. Huge loss though.
It will help get Tom and Jaeger in though, for sure.

As gutted as I was initially when I saw that pop up on my news feed, I reminded myself that I have complete and utter faith in the brains trust to make the right decisions for the future of the club.

Make no mistake about it, as sentimental as we make sport, if you want to be successful continuously you need to be able to make tough calls. Here's an example.

I honestly thought this was another "Clarko will be gone" type of things. I can't believe it is actually a possibility of happening. Abasi is right, there is NO coincidence with this and the Croad video coming out yesterday. Whoever is pulling the strings on this (Clarko) knows it is going to be unpalatable to members and supporters and they wanted to get the message across that this has been done before and look how good it was.
Only problem is he will be in his 40's when we get him back!

I'm gutted at this news. Felt the same with Trent Croad, but Hodgey turned out to be my 'Man Crush' as my girls call him, so fingers crossed JOM and TOM can do the same.

I know it isn't certain yet, but with all that has been done by Club and Sam overnight/today I'm preparing for the worst news.

Good luck Sammy. I have had some great chats with you over the years, and my girls will be very very sad if this eventuates!

Obviously a huge shock. Been in motion for atleast 12 months. Him and family were always intending to move away.

Perhaps people should listen to the words spoken by Mitchell before slagging the club, clarko and all involved.
Nobody should begrudge Sam for looking after his future after all he's done for hawthorn or the club for helping set him up for his future.

Heart breaking but a good move professionally for Mitch, and good for the club in the long run. I remember a few radical trades we have done in the past have turned out alright, let's hope this one does.

For Mitch it really makes sense because he really needs to move to another club to be an assistant, not good to stay in the same place. He also probably gets a lot more $$$$. Good luck to him.

For the Hawks it will help regenerate the list quicker and hopefully stay in contention through the rest of the decade.

This is the most professional, straight up, and surprisingly brilliant thing I've ever heard.

Everyone MUST listen to Sammy on SEN.

Hawthorn, Clarko, Mitchell, Mitchell's family, West Coast and Simmo should all be commended on their progressive thinking. Sam is going to be a great coach. Getting outside the Hawthorn environment to develop himself is vital (we've seen too many favourite sons just f#ck things up.. Hi James!) The fact that this has been a 'secret' for over 2 weeks is also a thing of beauty.

Don't get me wrong... I love Mitch. I'm gutted that this is happening from a 'bleed brown and gold' perspective.

But this may actually change AFL Trade week for the better. It's time to stop the bu11$hit posturing that some clubs persist with (Hi Gold Coast!) and get on with running your club, looking after the welfare of your players, and being bl00dy honest with yourselves and your fans.

And my hypothetical trade... 14 and Mitch for 12 (and maybe a swap of 3rd rounders)

This is shit. Why didn't we offer him an assistant role when he's done? We get someone poached every year, there is plenty of room in the coaches box!
The only thing i can think of is that Hodge will also retire next year and so they will also move him into a coaching role - this could be the reason

Lots of people are going to feel like this but if you listen to Sammy on SEN he actually praised Clarko for looking out for him.

Sammy actually approached the WCE about coaching once his playing days were over, and both he and the club can see the logic behind it.

Does it make you and me and all Hawk supporters feel any better, hell no

However in a few years time we may look back at this as a Hodge/Croad type scenario.
