If I've learned anything from Hawthorn during trade period, then something tells me that there's something greater at play here that doesn't involve either JOM or Tom Mitchell....
Gauranteed. This is a plan for for the next 3+ years.

It's not a trade idea made in isolation.

The way Sam talks about getting a good outcome for the club even in departure...
Just when you think you've used all the superlatives you can to describe this player we have loved...
This is dead-set Batman type stuff. We don't even deserve him, but he's the hero we need right now...

He was in Byron Bay two weeks ago post being told the news from Clarko.
Don't forget, he's had 2-3 weeks to digest this now.
Sam is for a move, just not the way it was done after signing a deal.
Like I said, take it or leave it.

And strangely the talk with clarko on brownlow day was barely 2 weeks ago.
Pretty certain Mitch was in Melbourne grand final week not jetting from byron bay and NZ.
Again 2 more things
1) Why would hawthorn make deals in july for new players in the HOPE of other players leaving, you unaware of how professional we are. Further to that do you honestly believe Mitch would be the one pushed first?
2) Sam is a dedicated family man, so the fact it's better for his kids to start prep uninterrupted means in 2/3/4/5 years means he wont disrupt primary school education. Long time til the kids in high school.
All is good here.
Not the only person with links to the Mitchell/Degenhart family.

Have some take it to the bank stuff on Mitchell. (Will not reveal source other than to say its immediate family)

Trade would've been done last year, but the Hawks refused to pay any portion of his 600k salary.
Mitchell thought this whole thing was dead in the water then and was actually blindsided by Clarko's approach this year.
Mitchell is actually pissed off about this deal and it only won't happen this year if the Hawks don't agree to pay at least $200k of the salary.
He is being forced out merely because the O'Meara and Mitchell salaries had already been agreed back in July and the Hawks TPP was worked out around at least 2 of the older boys retiring. When that did not happen this was Plan B.
Mitchell will return to Melbourne in 4-5 years time to senior coach at Hawthorn, but he's really jacked off how it's him that is being forced out when he considers 3 or 4 other senior players are finished and should've been moved on.
But he is really happy to be working with Simpson because they are such close mates. He would not join any other club.
Mitchell personally believes he has 2 years left in him, so retire and assistant coach is not a consideration.
Really shabby way to treat a champion, but no hiding behind Mitchell now for Lewis and co.
He's right, Hodge and Gibson are cooked.

In any case, the whole Mitchell being pi$$ed off is factually incorrect. Not sure who your source is but it's far from accurate.
I'd love this to be factually incorrect, but I see some sense in what Habitual is saying. Sammy clearly said this was all Clarko's idea. Maybe Sammy was just putting it nicely, out of respect, loyalty or whatever.
Signing an extension this year, this whole thing being Clarko's idea, knowing that Sammy could have retired here and still got a job out West, I don't know, maybe he was pushed out.
I hope this was not the case cos it would really leave a sour taste in my mouth...

Lewis and co was a compliment, he's now the No.1 midfielder at the Hawks.
There is no hiding behind Mitchell now he's gone, which again seems a pretty obvious thing to say.
Not sure why you'd take issue with that?

Do you watch hawthorn play?
Quite sure we don't have a set midfield and lewis is far from #1 whether we did or didn't.

It's intriguing who your "and co" is? I mean it's been fairly obvious you target Lewis in everything you post.

Perhaps it is Smith, pissed off that he didn't get to take a ride with his Dad in the Grand final parade, and now spreading rumours about his Dad's state of mind.

There has to be a much bigger play here...let's be honest here. Sam Mitchell WAS Hawthorn's best player this season. He would have been next season as well. Yes, tom Mitchell and Omera come in which will help but the team is losing their best player in the process. Long term it's fine, but Clarkson still believes the team can compete for the flag next season. You don't get rid of your best player and more importantly, a great leader to help recruit a kid that hasn't played for two years. There has to be something bigger brewing...if not, then this is a terrible decision.

Annoyed- has taken my attention of the NFL during the NFL season something which hasn't occurred since 2012.

Mitchell is a champion of our club, best player all year and like others have said if he is upset that he is the one being pushed out - then he is absolutely entitled to that fact seeing that he played better than Hodge, Burgyone and Gibson. (also a brownlow medal will be coming his way in the next six months).

In saying all of that- i trust Clarko i hope it isn't just to clear space for Vickery, Mitchell and O'meara i hope there is something more. I guess we will see

Trading out Hill and Mitchell for Mitchell and O'meara is not a win for 2017 or 2018. Perhaps down the line we are better prepared to transition but our performance the next 2 years will suffer.

Now to Watch Mitch play till he's 40 and all his kids go to west coast as father sons when he relocates and coaches there.

All the best Sammy we love ya mate.

This has masterstroke written all over it.

Go the Hawks!
Has to be a bigger play....to give up your best player and legend of the club for a kid that hasn't played in two years and a Richmond dud, would go down as the worst list management in history...something big is brewing...

I've cracked the case - Fyfe can't stand Mitch after last year's corkie incident, so we're just clearing the decks to smooth Nat's arrival at the Hawks either this year or next!

Joking obviously, but it would take a coup of that magnitude to make me see any positivity in Mitch becoming an Eagle.

God I hope so. Mitchell is fabric of the club
