This is not becoming any more palatable to me as the day goes on and I really can't understand the sense in it. We are going to get nothing for him it seems and it has no impact on us getting O'Meara or T Mitchell anyway... what is the point? Sam would walk into an coaching assistant's job anywhere so going there to play for a year doesn't make any difference as far as I can see. Sam was very magnanimous in his comments this morning on radio but that's because he is a smart operator and will make the best of any situation. Whatever way you slice it and dice it still makes no sense to me. We don't have to get every player that says they want to come to us. I mean we are getting Ty Vickery but losing Sam????? It's bonkers!!!! Sometimes I wonder if all this trading stuff is just a big ego trip for the list managers.

Bumps, be patient, I think there is a bit to play out still. Have confidence in the club, GW and Clarko.

You are missing the point. What is "club success" if we are getting a second round for him. And why him if that is the only thing we need. We could have got that with any of our fringe players.

Our other players were not having the same thoughts as Sam, so they have no relationship to what is currently happening.

Please don't take this as me baiting you or anything like that as it's not my intent, but sorry, WC were not a potential competitor for either JOM or T Mitchell. You guys run a fantastic club (now) and are right up there in Premiership calculations with or without Sammy, but for JOM and T Mitchell, I'd be more concerned with Essendon and Carlton respectively.

Both players want to come to the Hawks, or if not the Hawks then Victoria, so it wouldn't matter what picks WC offered and other Melbourne based clubs could offer the same money as WC. As things stand, the player still has to agree to the trade and you guys know that other than certain exceptions such as this or WA Born and Bred players, the tyranny of distance that is Perth is not appealing to players, especially coming from 2 clubs that already had to travel a lot and how much that takes out of their body.

Again, not having a crack at you or WC, just firmly don't believe they would be in the running for either player. just my opinion though...

You misunderstand me, whether WC are a real chance or not, if they can offer 700k and a pick, what it does is give Sydney or GC leverage.

There was supposedly one serious suitor outside of Carlton, people suggested it was WC. Mitchell may not be interested, but it does give Sydney a bargaining chip and may set a market rate for a contract.

If WC sign Sam, there is no chance they could afford or will offer a trade for another mid.

After seeing his output this season, he is evergreen. Can easily do 2 more years if that is what Mitch wants to do whilst transitioning into coaching. I can see why Hawks supporters are a bit stunned. It's not like he's declining rapidly, he is still elite but I can understand the move if it opens up future doors earlier.

Look, I hate Sam leaving the club. But you don't have to go back a really long way to remember another brilliant player leaving the club - and we did ok going forward.

So you're saying Clarko and the HFC brainstrust haven't earned ANY of your confidence in their ability to make these kind of decisions? How many cups would it take?

I'm trying to make sense of this, Sams manager said on trade radio that Mitch was somewhat blind sided by Clarkos approach but thinks it's a smart move for everyone. I think Mitch wants to go west to coach with Simpson but I'm convinced Clarko has given him a nudge to go play now, and the only reason I can see this being the case is to open up cap space so we can lock in all recruits as well as upgrade our offer to KB.

The whole Mitchell saga is counter productive to our chances next year, but long term it's probably the right move in terms of player development and the transition of our veterans.

I still feel pretty average about it, yuk day.

You are looking at it wrong, it opens up cap space and helps secure two and maybe another talent. I expect two of the three others will move next year, with Hodge staying as an assistant.

Hawthorn have no plan to bottom out, want a degree of continuity and are happy to turnover senior talent and trade. It has worked so far. I mean, few thought losing the best player in the comp would lead to the Hawks being a tripple premiership club.

Likewise, the club may want goodwill with a champ that may return in 5 years as a senior coach.

I've seen plenty of chest beating regarding the way Hawthorn treats it's players and why we're a destination club over the past few years on bigfooty. Anyone who has half a brain should understand that what's currently going on with Mitchell is exactly the reason why you feel confident beating said chest.

From what I hear he was interesting in joining Simmo as a coach for next season (retiring effectively this yr), Clarkson then convinced him to request a trade instead. I think we will offer our third and you will accept it.
