**** this. I don't really give a shit if it benefits the club, helps us get O'Meara or whatever, I'm being deprived of watching one of my favorite-ever players finish his career at Hawthorn. Emotionally this is about the most bullshit decision the club could've possibly made. Yes footy is a business but FFS Sam Mitchell is about as Hawthorn as you can get, he belongs in our jumper.

Very very unhappy with this news. VERY.
I really wouldn't even be happy if it netted us pick 1. But a pick in the 30's or 50's??? should burn the place down.

So disappointing.

Only thing that could make it up is JOM leading us to 6 or 7 flags. If we get 5 I would still be disappointed at losing Sam.

You are very naive.

You are being sold a line because the administration have made a mistake with the salary cap and do not know how to fix it. This is their last resort. You and the rest of the fans are being sold a lemon.

If you think there is something to gain from this trade, I would be interested to know what it is.

No, you're making up absolute bullshit for no particular reason and selling it as fact.
What do we gain from this trade? Getting a favourite player to his favoured destination - who WANTS TO GO TO WA, had a meeting with Simmo to that effect re a possible job in coaching, who in all likelihood had NOT SHARED THAT SNIPPET TO OUR COACH, and move along a process that HAD TO HAPPEN ANYWAY in 12 months time - up a year.
In the process, we will get some nominal return from West Coast, our young midfield will be challenged to not rely on champion number 5 to do the heavy lifting - as Clarko made mention of many times through the last season, and create a new playing style and format to winning our next premiership.

Whew. Dude, you are hard work!

Calm down mate. Like many of us Buckemenico is justifiably pissed off.....and is quite right to articulate his/her thoughts.

I have digested all sorts of opinions today and can understand some of the logic here.

However, for all of the logic, football is about passion and no matter which way I cut and dice this, the overriding thing is that a club and AFL legend will quite likely be running around in another team's jumper next season. And the thought of that makes me sick.

Sick, yes.
End of the universe, no hope for Hawthorn going forward, our leadership utter dullards and conniving in some way to destroy all Hawthorn supporter hope - NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This won't hurt us long term, if anything it could possibly help us.
But **** it hurts now.

I have grown up with Mitch and my earliest memories of football all have him in it. It's going to be hard to seem him leave.
I do wish him the best though as what he has done for the club has been phenomenal.
Hope to see him back coaching us one day also.

Good luck, Champion.

What would be a fair deal just for mitchell?
Then what could we package to get a higher pick?

Think we will have to sit and wait for a bit to see what happens around the league and what the other picks are involved in the T-Mitchell trade.

If we kept mayne compo would mind that and mitchell for a future first

Many pros and cons here, but I'm prepared to wait and make my judgement after silly season is over, and I can analyse the end picture.

The trade radio guys seem to think our third rounder will get it done.

Not sure that makes you guys happy - probably a win win for both teams. We get our kids some midfield coaching that they missed out on cos Cuzzy ****ed himself and made Juddy leave at the same time. You still have Hodgey and Burgoyne to lead, and you are getting TMitchell and JOM which I am super jealous about.

If it's any consolation - want to take priddis?

Any mention on Tom Lamb? I knew he wanted to come back to Victoria and I still think he could be a massive talent if things went right.

They don't even know who he is - two callers have asked about him and Damien Barrett was like ... who?

Surely Gil will give him his Brownlow now?

Probably upmost in the minds of the Hawthorn brainstrust. How many Brownlow medalists did we have in our three-peat side? Clearly they've acted quickly before the Brownlow rot could set in. Remember what happened to West Coast last time they had two Brownlow medalists in the side? Sam to unravel them from the inside...

Yeah never liked him. Good riddance.

Is there a rock I can bash my own head in with?

trade radio apparently suggesting a third rounder for our B & F and a Brownlow medallist.

Mitchell is contracted for next year. If he didn't want to go he wouldn't be. Let that sink in for a bit.

He's given us more than we could ever deserve. I know it hurts but let's think about giving back to Sam. He wants to move to WA to do his apprentiship. He wants to experience life outside of Hawthorn. Let's let him have it before he needs to take kids out of school to do it.

He will be back in 4-5 years as our senior coach. That you can take to the bank.

History will say
Sam Mitchell : 300 game Hawthorn premiership captain, 4 time premiership player, 5 time PCM, Multiple AA, Brownlow Medalist.
Multiple premiership coach at Hawthorn, Multiple coach of the year.

Look at it like the first step of life after Clarko with the only person I am 100% comfortable in taking over.

Thanks Sam. You'll forever be Brown & Gold in my eyes.

Based on the public statements from all parties today, I'd be very surprised if this trade doesn't end up going through.
What trade. Not a single thing has been mentioned about Hawthorn getting anything. If they accept a third round pick for our B&F the medical teams will need to come in and start the dementia treatment.

Agree- if it wasn't a sure thing before it is a sure thing now- it is a point of no return as soon as Sam went public.

I don't like it at all- I personally think he has been our best player in the last 10 years when we have won 4 premierships. It's a terrible feeling- I am sure it will be looked back at in 5 years time as a genius move but it's going to be difficult telling my 6 year old son about this tonight I guess for my sons' sake it at least it is not Cyril!

Apparently Emma Quayle stated he was re-signing in the next couple of days

There's a hell of a lot of self-entitlement in this thread.

A 307 game champion of our club, who has helped deliver us four premiership, is moving on to the next stage in his career/life.

His obligation is to his family first and foremost.

He has given us everything.

He owes us nothing.

He should go with our blessing, and our gratitude.
