I'm intrigued by the number of people here who seem to know what's best for the club without having any idea as to the inner workings of it.

A Geelong support mistakes a Eagle supporter who was being a smart arse on a thread with a "No Opposition Supporters" sticker on the Hawks board.
Unreal.

Don't blame him - it was the meth talking.

Could you imagine Goodes playing his last 2 years in other colours after winning the B&F in exchange for pick 70 and cap space to recruit Vickery and a guy with bung knees, while hanging on to O'Keefe and few others that have shown signs of slowing.

Unless the trade is ridiculously good, cannot understand it.
No way , i get the angst some of you have about it.. dont know why but strangely i am annoyed by it

That's because there club completely disrespected him with their offer. Blame the poorly run board.. You know, the one that nearly put an end to our existence.

yeah I know, it was ridiculous. But even with that he is a staunch Hawk.

If you think this was done for Sam's benefit you are in la la land, he said it himself he was blindsided by the suggestion. Sam playing out his last year at Hawthorn would be no hindrance to his post playing life. It was done to benefit Hawthorn although quite how I cannot see.

It is all very strange. If club had salary cap issues, why get vickery, Sam Mitchell is critical for next year if want to be race for premiership. Also, if paying overs for one legged JOM is not much point, as once our champs retire, you would need 5-8 good player, one great player even one legged not going to help too much.

I don't completely agree. he may have been blindsided because he didn't expect the club to offer the opportunity. Blindsided doesn't mean it isn't to his benefit.

Yes, I have read every post and am yet to be convinced as to the merit of this decision. Maybe you should read some of the ones that say it makes no sense and you'll understand why.

Why? They just read as "Waaa Waaa Waaaa, it's not fair, I'm a supporter and they're hurting my feelings..."

I have a feeling that this deal will be shelved for another 12 months, but it will happen ,and fans will have time to get used to the idea

Imagine how this would be playing out if Kennett was still presidemt

Why wont it happen?

All parties are happy with the deal apparently, and Hawks will receive SFA which is what they want???? Because there is some secret benefits to the hawks out of all this.

You dont think they listen to fans? Another part of the deal to be weighed up

What part of 'No Opposition Supporters' do these c*nts not understand?

Yep. I keep reading opinions about one of our greats from campaigners I don't care about. I said pages ago, if they're gonna post here remove the tag, its redundant.

This image sums up everything that's wrong with this move to me. Every time North supporters see Carey in an Adelaide jumper they must feel sick in the guts. Carey was 30 when he left North and there was no way he could have continued playing there given what had transpired there but I am sure if he was honest he would tell you that he would have been better off retiring than playing on with Adelaide. Being a one club player matters. It tarnishes your legacy. This is just so unnecessary. Just so wrong.

Do you think Stewie Dew tarnished his career?
What about Russell Greene?
Brian Lake?
Shaun Burgoyne?

One thing I'd like to add is that people need to be a bit more real when posting "This will cost as a chance at the 2017 Flag".

Next season we're another year older, Bulldogs are stronger (after all the injuries are back), GWS another year wiser, etc, etc. Maybe we could challenge, maybe not. But 2017 isn't going to be a missed opportunity because of this happening.

2011 and 2012 were missed opportunities, and that's just sport.

I'm confident that we won't bottom out and we'll be back in calculations in a couple of years, but I'm just a passionate Hawks fan, what do I know that Clarko etc wouldn't?

Exactly. Would've been a heap of Bulldog and Port supporters feeling like us right now when Lake and Burgers came to us and we didn't care. It's footy now. No more Under 19's. No more reserves before the main game (In fact no more Hawthorn reserves in the traditional sense). Now you have to match bids for father/son selections. I miss all those things, but still love my footy.

Still Shattered about Sammy though (that's now the 432nd time I've said that), but ready to move forward when it happens.

If this does happen and Sammy becomes a Weagle; do you think it was a mistake taking the captaincy away from him?

As much as I love Hodgy, that never sat well with me and I can't help but wonder if that plays into it too.

No, I don't think so. I think Hodge is a very good captain and probably a better one than Sam was or ever would be. We were lucky at the time to have two good candidates, Hodge was a bit of a hothead in those days and Sam had a bit more maturity so I think it worked well.

I heard the Eagles will ditch the games they play against for the next 2 years. Sweetener to the deal

only if they can add a tirade or two
Saweet! They can tell fans and reporters they don't have to come.... They're best mates with the Box Hill players so have plenty of respect!

Harf has it right, the guy's a child in an adult's body.

Wow.
I guess the supporters should run the club, at least the ones that agree with you.
No doubt you'll do an amazing job, but if you can't deliver 4 flags, 3 in 4 years, you will enjoy having you name, reputation, and very essence of being a decent human being - trashed by people on the internet.

Quality stuff.
Think before you write mate... I wouldn't be able to do his job just like he wouldn't be able to do what I do .,,or you for that matter!! If only people who can do a better job in the same field were allowed to have an opinion on Footy, you might as well shut down the whole Big footy website......My point is, in all our jobs, our first responsibility is towards our employer!!

But at the end of the day if Sam Mitchell wants to do this for his career post playing and for his family, who are we to say he shouldn't?

have not seen a single post begrudging sam doing what's best for him and his family. post #278 has some alleged information that might explain some of the angst, though.
