Has anyone heard Wrighty's press conference ...if you were still thinking its not a bad decision that doesn't make any sense...then listen to him try and answer how the club benefits from the Mitchells trade, Or how its not contradictory to let Sam to fulfil his wishes but not Lewis even if he wanted to leave... Not our best hour!

I thought that this was meant to be a win/win/win trade situation according to Mitchells comments prior to trade. Think there are only 2 obvious wins in this trade and the other is not even close to being a draw.

The money for Sam? Actually that does make sense. So he's taking his family interstate for a big pay rise and an ongoing role post footy? Maybe the contract he signed with us was pretty small - certainly explains why GW has been claiming that Sam leaving doesn't help our salary cap much. I'm still disappointed in the outcome but that is the first thing I've heard that makes sense.

In referring to Croady, that trade was a totally different scenario.
I was a bit sad, but he said he'll be back. That decision was get pick 1 in the draft and the trade gave us multiple top picks and I wanted us to get Hodge, and Sam, when we got Daniel Elstone, I thought we'd miss out on him.
So now still not happy and I will remain Paid Up, but not Proud, Passionate yes and P***d off we did trade and now I find we are paying part of his contract
next year, it does feel like he was pushed a bit but club is making him put spin to it.

Of course the club is trying to spin it, it's what all clubs do.

Fair enough, though I've only seen a small number who would fall into this category, for the most part people are just trying to understand this. Also, it is nice to see so many people who don't usually post have their say.

Dude I think there's been like 2 people saying they'll cancel their memberships.

This is a thread made to discuss the trade and obviously you've ticked off on the trade and that's - but some are confused and skeptical about why it happened.

This one really hurts, it will be sad watching Sammy play for the Eagles next year. I might even have a soft spot for them.

But as a club, we don't have access to top 5 picks, and even if we did, you draft for 5 years from now, not next year. Even then there is no promise a high draft pick comes on. Being able to bring in T Mitchell and O'Meara after they have already had 5 years development really does allow us to pick up where we left off instead of having to wait for the development cycle to take place.

In fact as a side bet, I believe collectively, O'Meara and Mitchell will outperform picks #1 & 2 in this draft over their respective careers. Last time we gambled on this (2009, Burgoyne, Gibson) we easily got more value out of this than Melbourne who had picks 1 (Scully) & 2 (Trengove).

To be honest the most offended posters are from other clubs. Very strange.

Huh? His 2017 salary remains the same irrespective of moving to WCE. The only monetary gain is 2018 he is on a coaching salary that has been ticked off by the AFL as market value for an assistant coach. This move was not about finances for him. Obviously for us it was.
