I was going to disagree with you but to be honest anyone who leaves Hawthorn is a shit bloke to me.
Sign of the times unfortunately. Can understand how you feel though. When the trade season comes around it's like a cattle sale out there these days!! However without losing Sammy you probably would not have managed to get O'Meara due to salary cap restraints?? That's my understanding of the situation.

Vomit

He looks confident and in control. Sammy is a quality guy. WC are lucky to get him on their coaching staff.

I loved how he shut the reporters up about the Brownlow. I sure hope we get him back one day.

Is it a kid's lot in life moving around if their dad's involved in AFL? Bit like having an army Dad/Mum.

My fear is that he will stay in WA for a long time to give his kid's stability. He is one hell of a family man so it would not surprise me.

Not sure what he'd do though. Take over from Lyons?

That is the worrying thing. His kids are not at school yet are they? Does he stay there till they finish high school? We may not see him back at Hawthorn as a coach!

They will be in prep and grade one next year

Im calling Sam Mitchell as the greatest ever player to play for Hawthorn.

There are only 4 or 5 names worthy of comparison.

I think Sam has them covered.

This is so very true.

If you've only watched the Hawks for the last 10 years.

Its an opinion, and i stick to it and ive seen all our great players.
Not that it means much but he has the most brownlow votes in the history of the game.
Then again it does say a lot.

I'm not having a go at you, Sammy has certainly been a great player in the the last 10 - 15 years. And he's actually been better, and more dominant, in the last 4 or 5.

But we've been fortunate to have so many great players, we sometimes forget how good they were. As an example, Leigh Matthews absolutely dominated the whole competition all his career; that's why he is rated as the greatest player of that generation.

We've actually got too many to choose from.

In sports there are certain players that make you want to sit back and watch their highlights. When you watch Sam Mitchell's highlights you always ask yourself why this player has not won more Brownlow medals in the last 10-15 years.

And he did it almost every bloody game too. That awesome Cyril goal in the Swans game came from Sammy brilliance from memory (down the ground). Just always found a way

Top three for me are dunstall, Crawford and Mitchell

I rate influence on the club as part of it, rather than solely playing ability

Dunstall was a champion (in my opinion the first "modern" forward) but he also gave back and had a huge influence on saving the club, and then making it a powerhouse

Crawford was the last brick keeping a building together
Without him, there was no hawthorn in the 90's and early 2000's

Mitchell is the ultimate professional who made the players around him want to play to the highest standard
We would not have the leaders we do if Mitchell didn't play for us

I was watching a bit of the 2013 PF against Geelong again the other day- I don't know why, it's just a reflex thing now. I just had to sit back and replay Sam get the ball at half back, jink, look around and when it suited him, kick the ball into space for Cyril 40m downfield then to Burgers for the Gunstan goal. Very few can do that at that pressure moment to help turn a game.

Theyre all great players, no doubt.
We've been spoiled over the years; I guess a team that's won one-third of the premierships over the last 40 years is going to have some of the best players who have ever played the game!

I'm an oldie and my favourites were always Lethal Leigh and Peter Knights. Leigh would just smash the game (and opponents) apart and Knights would mark everything in sight.
I loved going to games just to see them play.

Sammy is certainly up there with the greats.

Yeah na.

Lethal is and and always will be, the bloke should have won 4 Brownlows.

Would that make me older than you?
No, but if you think some one who played for the last 11 years is the greatest player of all time you haven't lived long enough to understand anything except your own short experience. Perhaps live a little before you make sweeping statements that make no sense.

Or support someone like Richmond whose supporters are prone to similar ludicrous hyperbole.

But clearly you haven't seen Matthews, Knights, Hudson and co, as I didn't really get to see Edwards, Austin and co.

How does my statement make no sense?
Are you saying the greatest ever brownlow vote getter has no claim to being the best player ever?
I rate him above Knights and Hudson and neck and neck with Lethal by the way.
Just cause you disagree doesn't make my opinion wrong.
