Coach Sam Mitchell - where is the pressure?

I'm aware the narrative has now become that wonder coach Sam Mitchell has been hamstrung by his predecessor, for obvious reasons, and that's certainly true. But Sam has also overseen the following:

  • Happily dished out Ceglar only to bizarrely bring in an arguable worse replacement in Max Lynch. And threw in the Hawks third rounder on top of the third rounder they got for Ceglar from Geelong.
  • Moved Tom Mitchell on for a bloke who can't get a game, leaving an already inexperienced midfield completely bereft of experience or leadership.
  • Gave up a 2nd and 3rd rounder to move up from pick 27 to pick 18.
  • Paid a 2nd round pick to give Chol 4 years who was subject to Bronx cheers from Hawks fans yesterday.
  • Drafted a promising KPF in the MSD draft only to ship him off to Brisbane so that Mitchell could give his mate another contract. This on top of moving on another forward who kicked 15 goals in 11 games last year.
  • Bought a small forward in via trade and then doubled down by drafting another instead of using the draft pick to bolster any other area that was lagging. In isolation grabbing Ginni or Watson is perfectly fine but getting both at the same time is weird.

This one aged like milk.

So a good game by reports. I have no animosity towards him.

I think he will follow a similar story to Sam Jacobs as he started at Carlton, got very few games , 17 games in 4 years at Carlton.

Goes back to his home state to South Australia. Plays 9 good seasons at crows. So essentially his prime years at the crows.

Leaves as a free agent on a 2 year deal at GWS but retires after 1 season.

Meek played like 15 games in 4 or 5 years at Freo.

I say he will spend his prime at the Hawks. So Hawks will have 8 or 9 good years out of him.

He then leaves as a free agent and spends 2 years in his 3rd club.

He left at the perfect time. He was your 3rd ruck and meant to be our 2nd ruck but the rule changes made his body type and style of ruck far better than Reeves.

I hope we are already discussing changes to his contract because he is as important as any of our mids.

We did it, team.

We found Dodo’s Bigfooty burner.

But our top 10 draft picks in the last 5 years have been rubbish.

So recruiters are to blame! Get rid of the lot. How does the board not see this???

Also, How the **** does Nash get a game? Because of his tackling? Absolutely useless disposal with his foot.
This post was clueless then, and even more clueless in hindsight.

Under what we’re doing that we don’t love, suggestions included stat-padding disposals and a self-centred approach or lack of team-first focus.

I thought these are the key tenants of hokball which Sammy Mitchell created? It seems it’s not as flattering when you can’t win a game. Who could have seen that coming.

Hokball is about camaraderie and getting around your team mates and having fun not self centredness. Another misconstrued opinion about what we were doing last year.

Isn’t it about being a flog and allocating more time to goal celebrations than practice?

I doubt they will get rid if him.. but once finals are out out of the question they may play without the pressure of expectation.

Hawks have another month of hell at the end of the season playing the top 3 sides (Adelaide and Brisbane away) so a couple of wins may build good momentum for next year

Your not being serious so I won't engage. Doesn't Charlie Cameron practice riding a Harley after kicking a goal, what's the difference?.
I guess one could argue that Charlie has been doing this for years and not coming up with something new each game. But Charlie is also much older than the Hawks small forwards.

Mitchell is an excellent coach. Might need an assistant or two, but he doesn't have the best list and they're in the 8.

Was Wright's first choice for the Pies ahead of Fly IIRC, so the pressure is I think not on the brainpans of his critics.

Does make good troll fodder to bait him but we keep that in the Bay.

Bit of Hokball on display
