The deal has completely changed Murray's arrival at Collingwood. He has gone from someone who was a free shot and a bonus if he makes it. To someone who needs to become best 22 for the deal not to be a complete **** up

This is what frustrates me. Murray is a taller Adam Saad before he was Adam Saad! It is a brilliant piece of scouting, but the deal is going to leave a sour taste in so many mouths unless it’s part of a broader deal simply because we included the future second.

Obviously we rate him because we passed on Saad and he clearly does have some attributes about him. Having said that at least half that highlights reel involves him doing stuff that he's not getting away with at VFL level, let alone AFL level. Don't mind getting him but should be considered a project whose still 2-3 seasons off it at a glance. If we're planned for him to be pushing best 22 next season and are delisting our other small defenders as a result, that would be bad imo.

We played this badly. Sydney only started talking about upgrading him to the senior list once we showed interest. Without the upgrade offer he'd have been a dfa, so might have been better off not trying to trade, showing no interest and signing him for nothing. Even if Sydney offered a contract late it's likely getting Murray via the draft would have cost us less.

But if Sydney offered him a contract, or started making those noises, then maybe we had no choice but to trade for him? I.e. He was t going to remain a DFA, and our hand was forced. Sydney wouldn't offer a contract for nothing.

I'm making myself confused now.
