CONTROVERSIAL Footy Show co-host Sam Newman has launched a vitriolic attack on Australian Muslims, saying “they share no common interest with what we’re on about”.

The comments came in response to Adam Saad and Bachar Houli’s embrace in the middle of the MCG before the first bounce of the Richmond-Essendon clash on Friday night.

The AFL players, who are both Muslim, planned the silent protest in response to Senator Fraser Anning’s maiden speech to Federal Parliament last week.

Anning was widely condemned after calling for a return to a “European Christian” immigration system and a ban on Muslim immigration to Australia.

Newman, speaking on the Sam, Mike & Thomo podcast alongside journalist Mike Sheahan and former St Kilda coach Grant Thomas, said “70 per cent of the people would agree with (Fraser Anning’s) sentiment.

“There are 600,000 Muslims in Australia, they share no common interest with what we’re on about,” Newman said.

“They have no common values, they preach to a different deity, they don’t generally nationalise, they colonise, and this has been a huge problem in Europe and is becoming a huge problem in America.

“I don’t necessarily agree with what Fraser Anning said but there’d be a significant number of people in this country that would absolutely agree with what he said.

“Why would the AFL think they’re being virtuous by getting those boys to shake hands? They’re being divisive.”

Saad and Houli’s pre-match protest was roundly embraced by the AFL fraternity, with Richmond coach Damien Hardwick calling it “a good opportunity to stand up.”

So Newmans point is the AFL getting Saad and Houli up at the start of game as a silent protest was divisive. Do you agree? Poll voters are anonymous.

Friends and associates of Sam Newman might need to start protecting themselves. It seems he is not going to go quietly into that good night.

The purveyor of 15 years of "Street Talk" takes on another soft target.

Really?

I wonder if Saad & Houli will give him a ring and make an appearance on TFS.

I'd actually watch it then.

I wonder whether he'll be bold enough to make similar statements on TFS. I doubt it for fear of backlash from at least one fan in the crowd that is Muslim or otherwise passionately against Sam's views

Sam has been a bankrupt multiple times... It is normally the little guy creditor that gets screwed when someone goes bankrupt. They are the first to never get paid.Bankruptcy can come from VERY bad luck, but not more than once. In most cases, it is a strategy.

Adultery, ruining marriages. Oh, and he met his wife at her engagement party to another man who invited him.

What are these common values we all share Sam.
