Especially when the extra $100k a year isn't that much with the payrises that will be going around under the next salary cap deal. End of 1st round at best, more likely 2nd round.
Hawthorn poster eh? How much was Frawleys contract that netted Melbourne a first round pick?

Reid is a KPF, the hardest players to get, that's why they command a premium. If a Vic club really wants to get Reid out of Sydney then they will have to put up a lot more $ than Swans are prepared to pay, he's not going to leave a flag contender for a little bit more down south.

So it would have to be big $ and long term. He'll only leave for a long term contract as well because Swans seem to offer all their important players long term contracts. The kind of money and length of contract that will have to be offered to prise Reid out of Sydney will get them a Band 1, which if they miss the 8 will be a top 10 pick.

Don't reckon any club, including Swans, has salary cap problems now because the CBA delivered more than an extra one million over and above what the clubs were told to budget for this year and going forward.

Reckon all the big names will stay with current clubs, including Kelly with GWS, you'd only move for better flag opportunities.

I agree that he will get more than $600k a year given how well he is playing, the new pay deal and how much Collingwood in particular needs him. My reference to not getting a first round pick in compensation is that the $600k suggested by another poster isn't that much in the new environment probably barely a second rounder. If we were trying to poach Frawley now, we would have probably had to cough up more like $800k.

Was very impressive last night, looked an $800k key forward. Not sure how Swans can keep him at that price unless they manage to offload half of Tippett's gross salary reportedly $875k!
We cut it in thirds, apparently.

Reid is a very important and unique player for us so he'll get a very good and fair contract offer in line with the plethora of stars we've signed to long term contracts in the past 12 months.

For Reid to leave a genuine flag contender, you would think it would only be for a Melb club in contention who are offering significantly more than the Swans are tabling and are not prepared to get close to matching.

If it's that amount of $ and years, it would have to be Band 1 compo regardless of inflation. FWIW, I think he'll stay.

Hes too inconsistent and injured to throw a massive offer at him. Literally had an entire year off football.
If he plays 6 more games this year he will have played 20+ games in all bar 2 seasons (excluding his first season where he debuted and played only 1 game). One of those guys with a misguided reputation for always being injured. Missing a full season last year obviously wasn't great, but it's the exception rather than the rule.

this guy is a Edihad specialist

suits either dogs st kilda or essendon

we should offer him heaps

He's way too important for our structure to allow him to leave. They'll let Jones go before they let Reid go
You mean they'll off load Tippet first, then offer Reid and Jones better contracts and try to hold both. No way Tippet stays and you lose Jones.

FTR I think Tippett's contract for 2018 is on significantly less salary in exchange for more years.

If it's still around 500k for 2018 it would be worth getting rid of him and paying say 200k of his contract for a rival club to take him. Freeing up 300k to retain players.

I'd probably accept the equivalent compo Geelong got for Ablett if Reid does leave....

He's worth a first rounder and if Collingwood want him their first will need to be on the table because we will match.
If you think that Reid's going to net you a top 5 pick then you're going to be very disappointed.

And FYI, Geelong got 2 first rounders as compo for GAJ
