So you are suggesting that they will trade Patton as well as the selection that would get them Boyd. Zero chance of that happening.

Pretty much, I was just throwing it out there as it seemed strange to trade Patton for pick 4 when it would mean GWS's list just gets further down the development path. They have offered pick 1 on the table anyway so maybe they are serious about becoming competitive quicker.

Lets hypothetically say GWS plan to offer Fyfe a 6 year $6M deal next year when he's out of contract and that FFC can't go close to matching it. What would we get as compensation, a pick in the teens?

IF GWS are keen on Fyfe (which is probable).
And
IF Fyfe is likely to take the $$$$ (which is possible).
And
IF Pick one is on the table.
I'd take the trade, but only after Bondy and Ross have a chat to Nathan and his manager.

Good post and this should be taken into consideration. IMO Fyfe doesn't seem like the kind of person who would leave his home state for more $$$. Ablett and Franklin had both achieved the ultimate success in winning two premierships.

I would also expect Fremantle to be able to offer a contract that wouldn't be too far off GWS. I'd be shocked if Fyfe left for the sake of an extra 100k - 200k extra a year.

Well presumably at the end of next season some or all of Pav, Sandi and Macpharlin will be put out to pasture.

That being the case, I think Freo will have plenty of spare cash to load up a truck, and dump said truckload of cash on Fyfe's driveway.

He is not a restricted free agent so could only go to GWS via preseason draft or trade. If goes preseason draft we get nothing for him.

All this trade talk of Fyfe is crazy. You jist don't trade players with the skill set he has, period....

Doesn't all this disgust you. Gws etc with bigger salary caps being able tk take other teams players due to extra money. When Freo came in the comp they got nothing extra. I want to keep Fyfe and the AFL has allowed teams like GWS to do as they please. No fairness and equity. Freo made finals finally to good governance gws will soon enough due to AFL backing.

Agreed. If we trade Fyfe we will be cursed ala the redsocks.

The curse of the Fyfefino.

Technically Fyfe can provide his own road-train

It sucks but it's the way things turned out. On the up side the club finally seem to have it's chance for some glory over the next few years. I am hanging for Freo' premiership(s).

Freo are definitely making use of free agency and working hard at sustained sustained success but free agency and teams with afl ambassadors etc can create a bigger divide between the haves and have nots.

AFL is changing it's environment to the detrement of footy supporters. One day it will become like epl and unless you are one of the big 4 don't bother.

Good point, didn't think of that.

So trade him now for pick one or if he walks we get a top 3 pick next year. In that case there's no rush.

Hopefully contract talks are beginning though, will be a shame if his contractual status is discussed throughout the 2014 season.

Very much so. European football/NFL trends are certainly coming down under. I have a feeling Freo and Wet Coast for that fact will be in the haves - not the have not's. WA teams will certainly be no minnows in the future in regards to financial clout and locally produced talent.
