What was the Naomi Robson comment?
Today Tonight did a story on Sam earlier this year of an incident between him and staff at the casino when he was drunk.

I agree with earlier comments made that Sam does act disinterested in football these days and is making a bigger goose of himself, but what really p i s s e s me off are these so called "current affairs" shows who are just hell bent on muck raking and digging up dirt on high profile individuals from events that are hardly "current" for a grab at ratings

Sam, Rex and Johnson are all pricks in real life having met and delt with them all I would say they are all as bad as each other with Johnson the biggest snake in the grass.

How many times have Rex and Sam been involved in incidents like these over the years (often involving spats with each other)? They happen so often they don't even deserve to be dubbed controversial.

Can you be sued for telling the truth ?
Sadly, the way our legal system is structured, yes you can.

It sounds to me as though Sam and Rex are up to their old self-promotional tricks again. They've both made a fortune behaving like imbeciles. They've both had their day, and time has passed them by. Time to retire guys, you just aren't funny any more.

I think if you could be sued for for telling the truth... then Don Scott would have sued Ken Judge for saying that Scott told him to throw matches when he was at Hawthorn to get draft picks. Scott threatened to sue him... but of course didn't.... because its hard to prove slander when someone is telling the truth about you. The silence from Don Scott is deafening.

Couldn't agree more. Newman certainly doesn't know how to grow old gracefully, however if anyone deserves a serve in football it is that arrogant knowall Rex Hunt.
Correct. Both are tossers. Reeks of a publicity stunt also.

This is a historic occasion......I agree with Joffaboy 100 per cent.

Someone hand me the smelling salts.

Vague recollection here, but I think the laws say that a defence against libel/slander is that it must be both true AND in the public interest to know.

Sam Newman has nailed his doubters once again.

The way he pulls the right strings for a 'public' reaction is outstanding.

Next week will rate through the roof; they're brilliant strategists:

"...tune in tommorow night to see it all happen on Thursday Night Football...A-F-L on Nine."

Nine 1, Robson 0.

This seems like a pretty minor spat by the standards of Rex/Sam over the years.

I remember once that Rex cracked it during a sports segment on Steve Price's show, walked out of the segment and didn't front for the fishing show that immediately followed.

Rex and Sam, each in their own way, symbolise the arrogance, sloth and pretentiousness that characterise so many in the footy media. Rex is truly bizzare in his behaviour - one minute he's portraying himself as a nobody who was lucky to play 200 games and get a gig as a radio caller, the next he's acting like he's the greatest personality of footy in the last century and treating callers with unbridled contempt. I think the latter is a more truer reflection of his personality, as his attempts to appear modest always sound false.

Newman, as others have noted, seems totally bored with footy but can't escape as his livelihood (and more importantly his fame) is entirely dependant on it. These outbursts he does from time to time seem little more then an outlet to release his frustration.

Both have had their time in the sun, now they're little more then self-parodies.

Mental illness is prevalent in our society. One in Four is currently experiencing/suffering mental illness.
Rex, is a classic Bi-Polar ( Manic Depressive) case. I seem to recollect that Rex has acknowledged as much. I am not sure if he has stated that he has been diagnosed. I know there was an article in the Melbourne "The Age" about Rex's wife battle with mental illness.
Newman is a model Personality Disorder case.
So be kind. Mental illness does not discriminate. Rich and poor. Old and young. They deserve our sympathy and support.

When he wants to Sam makes more sense that anyone else in footy, unfortunately most of the time he could not be stuffed and is becomng more erratic all the time (might be a reason also).

Fair go. Sam is paid to be a d1ckhead not to have serious rational conversations. He's probably the highest paid d1ckhead in Australia. His job description says "be a d1ckhead" and he excels himself. Just think of Sam as very very good at his job.

Exactly. Sam gets paid millions for his controversy and public personna. As does Eddie to spray ch 7 and defend ch 9's position. It's his job. 9 times out of 10 any publicity is good publicity. Sam's is brilliant on the Footy Show. The ability to polarise people's views is always a winner. These guys here keep bagging and knocking the tall poppies (ins't that alive and well) and the tall poppies keep raking in the big contracts.

I agree with the last few people here.

You only have to see the 700 million threads on the footy show to know he is doing his job well because I don't know any other show that has so many people who despise it tuning in every week.

To be sure, to be sure. But no matter, Robson will get her own back next week by exposing beggars.

Why don't any of these shows ever go for a target that is worthy, instead of aiming for groups/minorities that are completly defencless?

Wouldn't be in the least surprised if it was all stage managed but nor would I be surprised if Sam just heard something and went off leading with his tonsils. Either way we are assured of a "Big Week In Football".

No, not at all.

When TFS started it was fun. Lighthearted fun.

And it was good viewing. It was entertaining.

It is now just plain boring and very, very predictable.

No longer, do people think Sam is funny. They tune to see if he says anything remotely sensational or irritating. That is a lot different to tuning in to watch an entertaining show.
Why do people stop and look and car accidents or gawk at some place burning?

I used to be compulsory viewing. Now I flick it on, if I can be bothered and I flick the channel just as easily.
