I like both Sam and Rex.
Both are very funny and i wouldn't be surprised if they're just doing this for a bit of a laugh.
We know how good actors they are, Sam Newman was drinking tea the other night on the Footy Show and fooled 99% of people.

There won't be any transcript available anywhere.

3AW replayed it today. They may replay it sunday sports show or maybe sports today on monday.

Most of the people on here must be a bunch of boring old farts. Geez, lighten up. Sam Newman is the best personality in the football world today. If it was for Sam, the footy show would be near death and everyone would be more like Garry Lyon

Its no suprise Joffaboy hates him, your a ********ing whinger who seems to hate everyone outside your ********ty, cellar dweller club

No, not at all.

When TFS started it was fun. Lighthearted fun.

And it was good viewing. It was entertaining.

It is now just plain boring and very, very predictable.

No longer, do people think Sam is funny. They tune to see if he says anything remotely sensational or irritating. That is a lot different to tuning in to watch an entertaining show.
Why do people stop and look and car accidents or gawk at some place burning?

I used to be compulsory viewing. Now I flick it on, if I can be bothered and I flick the channel just as easily.

Agree 100% - used to watch it all the time ...this year Ive seen 10 mins, got bored and now watch the amazing race (good show).

TFS is finished, 9 is finished and fat Ed better ask Joffa for the "gold jacket" back cause the 'times....they are a changin'

Pathetic. One guy past his public use-by date and one fast approaching it. Eddie might be angry, but Sam obviously has the most to lose if Ch9 lose the footy and TFS keeps sliding. He should get used to the idea that his time in the sun is coming to an end, and, if at all possible, go out with some grace. Not likely.

I agree with the last few people here.

You only have to see the 700 million threads on the footy show to know he is doing his job well because I don't know any other show that has so many people who despise it tuning in every week.

The Amazing Race?

It IS near death. Because of fools like Newman.

To be sure, to be sure. But no matter, Robson will get her own back next week by exposing beggars.

Why don't any of these shows ever go for a target that is worthy, instead of aiming for groups/minorities that are completly defencless?

Have you ever watched "Frontline", the "current affairs" series by members of the D-Generation? It was done a few years back.

Newman and Hunt are laughable figures at the moment, carrying on like two 2 year olds who threw thier toys out of the cot. Both may well be making a sh1tload of money and have financial security, but both are egomanical twits who cant be taken seriously by teh football public. The arrogance and contempt for the very public that made them is a real turn off and people really should stop crawling up thier @rses when calling them on talkback seeing some sort of approval from the two bozos.

Same. I don't like either of them, well, I like Rex a bit and at least he knows what he is talking about for the majority of the time. Sam is just a nut, trapped within a smaller nut.

Agree entirely. While on the surface both can seem like buffoons, Rex is always shows respect, dignity, a sense of perspective, and common sense. Newman is irrational, biased, sexist, racist, agist, and every other ist you can think of. Street Talk shows how shallow he is.

Hmmm. Who was the bloke that Rex screwed over to originally get the gig on 3AW ?

The jailbird Harry Beitzel? You've got to be tough to survive, Rex is that. We don't want wallflowers commentating the footy.

Newman is in trouble. Every time he does something abjectly stupid or flat out offensive he pulls out the old canard about "I did it for the ratings" - what a load of bullocks!

Nope not Harry, I remember now - It was Bill Jacobs.

The fact I barely remember him probably justifies 3AW's decision to bump him. Jacobs was a grumpy old man whose time had passed him by. At least Rex knows something about the game.

It says a lot about Sam really.

Publically discrediting Rex on air.

Not very classy at all.

Maybe so, but it doesn't really excuse the way it was done...and I remember Rex having quite a few ranting sessions about NOT stabbing Jacobs in the back. "Me thinks he doth protest too much"

This seems like a pretty minor spat by the standards of Rex/Sam over the years.

I remember once that Rex cracked it during a sports segment on Steve Price's show, walked out of the segment and didn't front for the fishing show that immediately followed.

Rex and Sam, each in their own way, symbolise the arrogance, sloth and pretentiousness that characterise so many in the footy media. Rex is truly bizzare in his behaviour - one minute he's portraying himself as a nobody who was lucky to play 200 games and get a gig as a radio caller, the next he's acting like he's the greatest personality of footy in the last century and treating callers with unbridled contempt. I think the latter is a more truer reflection of his personality, as his attempts to appear modest always sound false.

Newman, as others have noted, seems totally bored with footy but can't escape as his livelihood (and more importantly his fame) is entirely dependant on it. These outbursts he does from time to time seem little more then an outlet to release his frustration.

Both have had their time in the sun, now they're little more then self-parodies.

Bingo
