His management team must be licking there lips thanks to his season last year and the fact his a restricted free agent. If he strings a few good games together early or has a match winning run against Richmond at a packed MCG you could see a new record for biggest AFL contract. The Ablett and Buddy moves required a special set of circumstances that don’t exist at this time so can’t see him moving but Carlton will have to pay$$$

Gun player, but nowhere near the marketability of Ablett or Buddy.

Carlton are going to have to pay a decent amount in any case, but it’s going to be in line with the kind of contracts we’ve re-signed our other stars on.

Doesn’t have the marketability of them yet but say he wins a Brownlow next year then he could

He’s not a restricted free agent. He’s only played 3 seasons.

That will probably happen but it doesn’t equate to being more marketable as a player eg when Neale and Mitchell. The average pundit is well aware of Walsh and his capability as a player.

Buddy and Ablett have that god tier X-factor that puts bums in seats.

I think the AFL can offer a huge amount of money for him to play at Gold Coast, especially if Ben King says back to Melbourne please.

Good luck, have they seen our boardroom?

They are the ones who would trigger the investigation into salary cap breaches while arranging a salary cap concession for the team poaching your player. Let's not pretend that it's an even playing field here.

If the AFL want to throw money at Gold Coast because they desperately need a marketing win, you'd be wise to suggest to the AFL that the suns also need a priority pick so they can trade #1 and #4 to Carlton for Walsh.

Won't happen him and Adam Cerra love playing together too much

but if they somehow go backwards which would be unexpected then I’d say he’s gone
Even if Carlton go backwards it’s still probably more likely that you find a cure for Covid in your lunchbox than it is that Walsh leaves Carlton at the end of the year.

How is this even a thread? 😂

“Speculation”

He’s not going to leave Carlton.
Speculation is the standard player prefix for all threads that aren't free agents, and any player who is in the last two years of their contract, or who has mainstream media speculating about them, can have such a thread.

It might be speculation about how long or how much Carlton re-sign him for, or who might try and bid up the price, or it might be one of those situations where every man and his dog thinks the player will stay and then they don't.

Either way we can't not have a thread on the basis of someone's opinion that it won't happen, or there'd be people lining up to have that opinion about every player at every club just to try and shut down debate.
