Averaging 29 disposals for Geelong Falcons in the TAC Cup and 20.5 for Victoria Country through the Under-18 Championships, Walsh is arguably the most prolific midfielder in the 2018 draft class. Able to play inside or outside, he has strong contested ball-winning capabilities and also breaks the lines on the outside.

#22 Sam Walsh – The bottom-ager is arguably the best midfielder in the 2018 NAB AFL Draft. Walsh led the stats sheet with 30 disposals, seven inside 50s and won five clearances. Walsh linked up well on the outside and worked very hard at the stoppages. Whilst not all his kicks inside 50 were effective, his ball winning ability is outstanding

SAM WALSH was presented the 2017 AFL Life Members Education Fund Award at a function held on Friday at Etihad Stadium.

Previous winners of the award include Joel Selwood, Luke Hodge, Tom Scully, Jonathon Patton, Daniel Wells, Lachie Whitfield, Nic Naitanui, Andrew Gaff and Darcy Parish.

Looks the goods, I think he's been a bit under appreciated with the hype of Rankine, Hill and Rozee, but, with him being top age this year he'll get the recognition he deserves.

Fagan has stated that in the 2017 draft he would have liked to target a mid who can play inside and out. This wasn’t really done in this draft with Rayner, Bailey and Starcevich but Walsh might just be that mid Fagan was talking about. On the Lions board it is definitely out of Rankine (style) and Walsh (substance).

Sort of sounds like a similar type to Andrew Brayshaw from this year's draft, but probably better (he was arguably better this year than Andrew, despite being a year younger) and he of course went at no.2 in the recent draft.

When I look at Walsh I see similar things to Lachie Whitfield. Similar height, similar weight and build. Both run a 16 beeper. Ave similar numbers at champs.

Maybe Whitfield is a better kick and Walsh more contested.

Just watched some of one of VC's champs games from last season and he reminded me a hell of a lot of Cotchin, with the way he moved and possibly even kicked.

Sam Walsh had 36 disposals, three clearances and kicked a goal for the Geelong Falcons yesterday. 19 handball receives so worked very hard. Best midfielder in the draft.
