Samboy Chips

Had a pack of Samboy s&v at the local footy on Sat'dee. :)
S & V is my fav chip flavour:thumbsu: followed by BBQ
I also like cornchips, especially nacho-cheese flavoured doritos:D. There was a cheaper brand of cornchips called viva (not the paper towel!) but I haven't seen any for ages. Not as good as doritos but still tasty (good for cooking nachos:p)

When I was little, Dad would often go to the pub with his friends, and my brother and I would be left in the car for what seemed like hours at a time (since we were to young to go in to the bar). Dad would bring us out a packet of BBQ Samboys and a couple of raspberry cordials to keep us entertained.

In hindsight Samboys seem like a pretty shitty consolation for sititng in a car for hours, but at the time, they were gold.

What state did you grow up in???
Kids are allowed in bars as long as they are with adults. We always went in and had lemonade and raspberry drinks! They were the best.

Red Rock Deli are far greater than Smiths and Samboy, and anything else out there.

:thumbsu: :thumbsu:

Also loved the Thins Light and Tangy - pity that half the time, there was so little flavour they tasted almost identical to original (which I'm not a fan off). Don't eat much chips nowadays, expect when at the footy.

Samboy were so good, I remember me and my mate would walk down to the local milkbar, and he would buy the ones with the Dragon ball z things in it, i was into them as well, but they were nothing compared to Samboy - especially BBQ and Chicken, so i would buy like 4 packets of Samboy chips and munch them down by the time i was home, which was about a 10 min walk

Also anyone miss Doritos 3D chips, now those were the best chip, anyone has seen..... R.I.P :(

Great parenting! :D

sorry to stear this the wrong way....
....What happened to CCs!?

Were they renamed as Doritos? Because I can't really remember them competing..

I remember it JUST being CCs... and now JUST being Doritos? Or did Doritos just somehow destroy CCs?

Doritos re-launched in 1996 with essentially the same bags you see today (cheese supreme, Nacho cheese and original) and blew cc's away. The launch was roughly at the same time as the Tazo promotion which took Frito Lay from c 30% of the chip market to closer to 50%. Frito Lay then bought Smiths in 1998, the ACCC asked them to divest of some brands so they off loaded CC's and kept Doritos. CC's were bought by the Dick Pratt backed Snack Brands Australia which rather than being a long term player was more about being in the right place at the right time and the CC brand saw no real development.

Dick Pratt sold them a few years later for a pretty penny to Arnotts who incidentally had sold their brands to Frito Lay in the early 90's.

The launch was at the same time as the 1996 Olympics, I had busted my knee and was holed up for a month at home with nothing to but plough through the 15 boxes in my garage and watch the olympics.

Hello 10 kilo's.

wow this thread brings back some memories. I remember when Samboy were huge, ads all over the telly, remember "hit me with a Samboy chip" :thumbsu:

To be honest though, I prefer Smiths chips especially their original flavor, not too salty and very addictive.

Kettle brand honey baked ham chips are my absolute favs :thumbsu: I bet the queen eats those.

I remember the samboy ad in the 80's. There was a guy standing there going through all the flavours and he would say "samboy salt and vinegar" and then he would have vinegar and salt pour down on him, "samboy chicken" and feathers fell down from the sky, then "samboy barbeque" and the ad would end with a thud as a bbq had fallen on the ugly bugger.
